Let's Cheer Our Ethiopian, Djiboutian, Eritrean and Somali Athletes

Post by ittuabafarda » 29 Jul 2024, 02:36

Dear My Beloved Horn of Africans,

It is that time that comes to us every four years. Our young athletes from Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea and Somalia are competing in various track and field events. There are athletes competing in freestyle swimming too. I know one thing for sure. Our son/brother the indomitable Biniam bin Girmay will bring us the hardware and make us all proud once again. Did you see how he won the stages in the Tour de France? With his final sprint he left every one in the dust. That young man should be honored by the AU. I hope Brother H.E. President Isaias will bestow the nation's highest honor upon this gallant young man
Let's all of us come together and root for these athletes from the four countries. The track and field competitions in which our athletes usually shine start on August 2, 2024. Let's go!!!

The days for all of to pay attention begin on August 02, 2024. Here is a rough schedule.

August 02, 2024 - Men’s 10,000m final
August 05, 2024 - Women’s 5,000m final
August 07, 2024 - Men’s 3,000 Steeplechase Final
August 09, 2024 - Women’s 10,000m final
August 10, 2024 - Men’s Marathon and Men’s 5,000m Final
August 11, 2024 - Women’s Marathon

There are other competitions athletes from the Horn of Africa participate but I found these to be more intense. Check your tv guides for local listings and timings.

Let’s cheer our Horn of African athletes in these competitions.

I also watch other competitions intently, like both men’s and women’s 100, 200, 400, 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400m finals in which I root for my American athletes.

Let's not forget to also cheer for our daughter/baby sister Naomi bint Girma and US Women's National Soccer Team at Paris Olympics. So far she and teammates are doing a heck of a job. From the interviews I saw, she knows her trade very, very well. Ways to go Naomi!!!! Go get'em

Don't forget to watch the men's 10,000m final tomorrow and it will be beginning at 14:20 Paris time. Glue yourself to your TV or streaming site beginning at 07:00AM eastern time and deduct one hour for Central time, 2 hours for Mountain and 3 hours for the west coast. Any medal will be the cause for a roaring celebration for me and if it is gold this octogenarian will shoot himself to the moon. Any medal by any athlete from Eritrea, Djibouti, Somalia and Ethiopia will be absolutely delightful. With all this depressing news coming out of that region, I desperately need something like a medal at this major sports event to lighten me up, man!!! Go for it boys!!!!

My latest guide shows today’s men’s 10,000m final will be on by 12:00PM eastern 11:00AM central. If you are watching the games now, stick around and don’t change it. Like I said before, any medal win by any athletes from the four nations will be a cause for celebration for this beyond-repair Horn of Africa centrist. Let’s go boys!!!

That was in Heat 1. Heat 2 is next and there are our other daughter Elisa Medina and our dear neighbor from Djibouti Samiyah In it. Let’s cheer for both.

To my surprise our athletes from the old country are making themselves noticed in the middle distance races also which is very good news. I noticed one of our own daughters Worknesh bint Mesele qualifying for the 800 meters final. She smoked the entire field. Let's scream from the top of our lungs for her too! Go get'em tigress!!!

Did you see Aregawi's sprint to the finish line? That was a carbon copy of the late Yifter the Shifter. I was like 'Get'em tiger! Get'em! Get'em! Get'em son! Get'em, son!' from the top of my lungs in my basement crib(I was banished from our living room during such occasion because I get too loud) until suddenly my high mileage legs gave in under me. Lucky I was not too far from my sofa. I was seeing his late uncles, Abebe Bikila, Mamo Wolde and Yifter the Shifter joining me screaming and urging him and he did not disappoint!!!! Cheptegei was extremely lucky shifter Aregawi was not closer behind him when he went on the over drive!!! Kudos son!!!!

It was not the day for our daughters but it is perfectly fine with me. There is still a lot of running left in them. But I want to say this to our 19yr old daughter Medina bint Eisa. You are a gold medal winner for me and my family already, hon. You are at the tender age now. The next Olympics will be held in just 4 years from now here in our backyard Los Angeles and you will be at your prime age of 23. Eight years from now, you will be a force to reckon with at 27 in Brisbane. 12 years from now you will still be a powerhouse to deal with at 31. I hope I will still be around to cheer you and your teammates on. Insha'Allah!!! You are our champion, sweetheart!!!!

I also have this to say to our other golden daughter Gudaf bint Tsegay. I don't care what everybody says and I don't give a flying murmur what the Olympics Committee is up to today. The gold medal was unruly snatched from you today. You are my/our champion already, hon!!!

Now, I want the Ethiopian Olympics Committee to file a complaint with the Paris Olympics body about what was done to Gudaf who is the world record hold in the 5,000 meters. I'm in a foul mood now!!!
