My guess is that Kaffa are actually Gaffats. I say this because when the Damot kingdom was taken over by Amde Tsiyon, the last king of Damot, Motalemie (Mate Alem) fled to Kaffa and died there. Their folklore states that they migrated from Hadiya in 1600s during the time Gurage was repelling Oromo incursion into it. Out of sight of Gurage focus, with very little resistance or absence thereof, they settled on the north of Gurage, about 10 km away from Welkite, making less than 1% of Gurage population. Culturally, Kebena is as Gurage as Welene is. And lots of Gurage words in Kebena language.

Imam Hassan Injamo of Kebena, who together with Imam Baqsa of 7bet said to be senior partner, led the more ferocious of Gurage resistances to Menelick's conquest of Gurage, and won many battles between 1875-78. Imam Injamo rose to more prominence in tactics. He is buried in Gumer. His grave site is covered with trees, needs some trimming.

Their efforts were not islmacization of Gurage. They came together to fight back the annexation of Gurage to Shoa by Menelick. If you really want a broad discussion, leave the religion argument/agenda out. Out of ethiopian or Gurage agenda unless you are conversing to your muslim domain. And this forum is not.
