Does Abiy Ahmed, PM of Ethiopia, have an accent in Amharic?
What do native Amharic speakers say about it?
Amharic is not my native language, I speak it as my second language, so it could be difficult for me to recognize if someone has an accent or not.
If yes, please site some instances of that you think is an accent.
If no, then please say why that is not the case, there are many Ethiopians born and raised in the rural parts of the country and struggle to be free of accent of the language the whole of their lives. I am one of these latter group.

He has a southern voice and speaks addis ababa style of amharic
When it comes to accents Amharic has many accents for example Debre Berhan Amharic is more soft compared to the surrounding village amharic. Rural Amharic and Urban Amharic are not the same. Then their is Kifle Hager Amharic accents.
Btw Gojam speak the closest to Wolloye Amharic
If you take a Borana herdsmen and send him to Welega then the welegans will say this man has a accent...
Well no duh. Abiy does not speak rural amharic

Abiy ahmed uses urban (AA) dialect and accent.
He hasn't got a "marker accent" to indicate his native language.native language markers are not easy to remove after the age of about 15.unlike oromos from rural areas,Abiy has no traces of oromo flavor when he speaks Amharic.
a good example is an Indian born person speaking English compared to that of US born Indian.

If a language is your second language and that you speak it fluently, then, you shouldn't have any difficulty in knowing whether one speaks it with an accent. You should even be able to observe regional accents between native speakers.Amharic is not my native language, I speak it as my second language, so it could be difficult for me to recognize if someone has an accent or not.

Idiot,
His mother is Amhara. His father was a very old Oromo man. Chances are, he may not be his real father. The father could be Guragie, for all you know .

That is why I wondered myself about how good he speaks the language. It is clear that any official language of a given people around the world has a metropolitan variety of the respective language, Amharic is not different. Many of us tried also to speak the language without any dialect, unsuccessfully.Tiago wrote: ↑14 Jul 2024, 06:26Abiy ahmed uses urban (AA) dialect and accent.

The more you are fluent in a given language, the more you are also smart in the rest of your creativity. He uses that creativity to recreate Ethiopia.
He is gifted in learning additional language, while many around him prefer to confine themselves to just the one and only one language they have learned as a child, like many Amhara elites in the country. They live at the doorsteps of the Oromo community but never ever try to just learn a single word of the local language.
Abiy is not expected to speak the accent of those in the deep rural areas of Gojjam or Gondar, he speaks "high Amharic" (metropolitan Amharic), like it is spoken in offices and mass media.
Abere thinks he is good in Amharic just because he remained faithful to his countryside dialect of Gojjam.
Re: Does Abiy Ahmed, PM of Ethiopia, have an accent in Amharic?
The idea behind the creation of this thread seems to be nothing more than to tell you that the clown monkey Bantu is smart and creative, and that he has even "re-created Ethiopia", though I wonder how!
It's amazing that Galla that was treated as slaves and later as second class citizens in their own fuc'king country for centuries have suddenly become humans since the infamous clown entered Menelik Palace! They even dare to tell us that this clown has re-created Ethiopia, when in reality, he has destroyed it, fuelling wars, one after another, that have been bleeding out the whole country in which every killil has become confined within itself, making Ethiopia a country at never-ending war with itself.

DDT,
You did not get the point. Abiy Ahmed speaks Amharic, but he cannot connect with the grassroots majority Amhara people. There is a huge disconnect between journalism style Amharic earned at school and natives Amharic. I would say roughly 60% of grassroots native Amhara farmers do not understand deeply things aired by radio and TV.
Abiy Ahmed speaks simple Amharic for the urbanites. Please also not, language is a learnt behavior. I know quite a dozen Wolega students who earned A+ in Amharic in 12th Grade School Leaving Exam. They were educated to the test.
First, if you know Jimma. Jimma and its environs is a predominantly Amhara, Kulu/Janjero , Oromo, Gurage city. One of the demand of residents to TPLF was to designate Jimma and its environ just like Dire-Dawa, because it is predominately Amhara. Jimma has been dominated by Wolo Amhara people, mostly. Since Abiy might have been spent his youthful age as wana be OLF, he missed the opportunity to get the good Amharic flavor and memorized it at military school.
Abiy's Amharic is good enough for Arega Kebede, Temesgen Tiruneh but not for those Amhara living in the villages over the terrains. I do not think they even want to listen to him.
By the way, how is his Oromigna level of fleuncy. Given he is from Jimma ( not enough to be Oromo), do you think he is as fluent as Wolega and Guji or Borena.

Is his Afan Oromo good? I feel that he might have some accent when speaking Afan Oromo. I don’t speak the language though.

Abere,
When have you seen Satan Mamo Killo speaking Amharic? He only reads notes or repeats memorized scripts written by Ganiel Difret. Have you ever seen him answering questions that he was not given before he was asked, whether in parliament or by his government mouthpieces?

Instead of you coming out of your jungles in your droves, Abiy should come to your jungle and comfort you there, what else to expect from the people of multi-tier society where they remaining on the top of the tier?
No Wake-up call can ever remedy your mass ailments anymore. I heard one guy commenting on Youtube recently: "election can never solve our problem, we have no issue with the election, nor we doubt that Abiy has won the election, as long as the so called ethnic federalism is still intact. We will never accept any dialogue to resolve the standing issues, short of disbanding the ethnic federalism", etc. in all in this line of argument.
We can only say: መንገዱን ጨርቅ ያድርግላችዉ!

Yet speaking Afaan Galla, Tigrigna, and Amharic have not benefited the clown, as he has been in war with every single of them.
