Whad did Isaias build in his በአንድ-ቂጥ-እንራ 4 years relationship with Abiy?

Ethiopia and South Sudan have recently forged a significant agreement to bolster security and trade by constructing a new oil pipeline route.

The accord, finalized on July 6, 2024, between officials from both countries along their shared border, marks a pivotal step towards enhancing economic ties and infrastructure development.

Key resolutions from the meeting include plans to mobilize resources for constructing a vital road connecting Upper Nile State’s Gambella-Pagak through Maiwut to Malakal-Maluth and Paloich.

This strategic route will facilitate the transportation of oil through Djibouti’s port, reinforcing regional trade and security coordination.

South Sudan’s National Legislative Assembly previously approved $778 million for a highway project linking the country with Ethiopia, underscoring their commitment to joint economic prosperity.

Officials, including David Nyang of Upper Nile state, praised the agreement as pivotal for fostering peace, stability, and bilateral relations.

Deputy Minister Semaya K. Kumba hailed the agreement as a historic milestone, emphasizing its potential to address mutual challenges and deepen cooperation between the two countries.

Sarcasm, this agreement is another fake one like the MOU with Somaliland. An oil pipeline doesn't make any economic significance for Ethiopia.

The pipeline can only be for crude oil as both countries have no refineries. Even for south Sudan, better alternative routes are via Kenya or port Sudan as Ethiopia will not secure peace in the near future.

I remember Woyane used to fabricate similar stories back in its days.

Hi Educator,

Hope you are well. I was not looking at it from Ethiopia's benefit angle, I was looking at the news from the benefits to Eritrea. If the oil pipeline is built, Djibouti will receive recurrent benefits. Isaias could also have brought infrastructure / development benefits to Eritrea if he had used his close relationship with Ethiopia in the past 5 years to build long-lasting developmental infrastructures. But he used his relationship to engulf the region with bloodshed and warfare.

Hi sarcasm,
Yes, you're right. If Isayas put a little effort in fostering economic cooperation with neighboring countries especially with Ethiopia, Eritrea would have benefited a lot. However, we shouldn't forget that Eritrea under shabya has no hope. Isayas has sabotaged his country for so long that even after his departure from this world, Eritrea will not be able to come up with the required labor force to create any form of economic revival. Its only viable future is to be swallowed by Tigray.

Agame dream on. Eritrea will be fine after Isayas. Tigray is stuck in much greater ethnic rife, unstable country called Ethiopia. If Tigray was country by itself, then maybe…..perhaps. Now, Tigray is not even as powerful as the chat smoking shoe shinning Guragies.   swallow ! Damn Agame. Be realistic.
