As of know, all Gurage neighbors are Highland East Cushites such as Kembata and Hadiya. There may have once existed Omotic groups who went extinct or under threat of extinction. I believe the Fugas are Omotic groups who are painfully discriminated by Weleba, namely Gurage, where they are not allowed to own farm lands and intermarry with Gurage.

When Geez speakers introduced to the natives, these natives were obviously cushitic speakers and there may have been Omotic speakers.
