When the Ethiopian anthem is played, it could be played anytime, and broadcast over the megaphones installed on buildings across Dire Dawa, everyone stands still, cycles, Bajaj, cars and trucks.
One trave vloger documented this and I watched the video today.

Shockingly oppressive!! I believe this sick retribution is aimed at the Somali Ethiopians of Dire Dawa.

The constitution of the country demands equal treatment of citizens by their government. Their rights against harassment, psychological torture by humiliation is a violation of natural law and the laws that govern Ethiopia.

Citizens of Dire Dawa are subjected to audio broadcast of the Ethiopian anthem by radio and other means at any time of the day during which time they have to stop class, office work, factories, construction, driving, medical services, business transactions, pastoral travellers with their animals entering Dire Dawa, etc. For whatever long, 5, 10 or 15 minutes, life activities freeze with immediate effect on a spot. No other part of Ethiopia has been treated so badly. Tigray and Oromo that destroyed lives and properties for over 30 years have not been treated so savagely.

This is abhorrent apartheid, repulsive and criminal.

Maybe becaue Diredawa belongs to Somalis and not to Ethiopians. The borders that currently define Ethiopia were significantly influenced by European colonial powers in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The incorporation of Somali-inhabited territories, including Dire Dawa, into the Ethiopian Empire can be seen as a product of imperial expansion rather than the result of organic, historical nation-building. This incorporation often disregarded the ethnic and cultural landscapes of the region, leading to contentious claims over territory. The traditional territories of the Somali clans such as the Issas and the gurguras and barsug extend into this region, predating modern administrative boundaries established by colonial and subsequent Ethiopian rule.

I beg to differ on your truth which is a heap of trash. Metema north is north of Khartoum in the land of the Nubians. He was armed by the British to fight against the Mahdists who waged an independence struggle against Brito-Egyptian colonization of the Sudan. If the Red mad dog did not stroll on foot to the camp of the Sudanese, he wouldn't have been killed.
