I am Ethiopian, damn it! Plus Argoba is very close to my ethnic group of Gurage in way of life, lots of contacts in trade, religion and language. Plus, needles to say Argoba is a semitic group. Also, the UN Charter demands UN member states to prevent language death, cultural annihilation or genocide. It demands member states to do everything possible to resuscitate dying languages and cultures. We know dictator Abiy Ahmed doesn't care about all this national responsibility other than to make sure he remains in power unendorsed by the people refusing to go for elections.

I personally view a death of any ethnic group is the death of the civilization that it created. Its beautiful material and artistic culture, language, history are not carried on to the group that dominates and kills. It's a permanent loss to Ethiopia's diversity.

They have become small now numbering around 200,000 but they were very large ethnic group. Their lands stretched from Harar thru Shewa Robit, Metahara, Wenji, Ankober, Menz, Bulga, Ifat, to parts of Wello. Instead of the above contiguous geography of the Argoba territory, they now occupy fragmented pockets of lands. Some of them are in Harari State where they are forced to learn Harari language. In Oromo and Amara, they are forced to learn the respective languages.

No one, in their normal state of mind, would refuse to establish their own kingdom or a governing structure. There may be other influences at play polarising the debate, 'To be or No to be". If well placed interest groups favor 'peace and No war against the Ethiopian Gov, like in Gurage, vanguard political groups such as liberation fronts can never come to reality. This may be the case for the near death situation of Argoba, some of it being absorbed by the small Harar helping it to be bigger by the newly acquired population and its land. The same in Oromo and Amara.

I think we should not help or let an ethnic group die out in 21st century. There are UN principles we signed to respect and implement.

All the 3 killers of Argoba blame one another for imminent death of the Argoba identity and the dispossession of their lands. Ethno-centerism at play which is an evil principle of predation on another fish while you can.
Most of Argoba is absorbed by Amara, followed by Oromo and the small Harari is the last and newest opportunistic predator of Argoba.

Argoba live right between Amhara and Afar people. the Oromia Zone in Eastern Wollo is actually Argoba land plus Shonke Mosque near Kemise has a few Argoba speakers left they have one special woreda in Amhara Region and another one in Afar Region by bulga.The Argoba could never expand into the Amhara Highlands nor could they expand into the Afar Lowlands so they remained crammed between both.
