Sisay Agena of Lualawi Media has stated recently in one of his daily broadcast programs ብዙ ሰዎች ኢትዮጵያ ዉስጥ በቅጀት አለም ዉስጥ ነዉ የምገኙት. If you thought this is simply an overstatement or exaggeration of the reality on the ground, then just think again.

This is a very worrisome development and I have no doubt that the assessment is very much real. We need to analyse the situation more carefully and weigh on the possible consequences of such a development, if we even try to contemplate about a possible remediation of the grave consequences of such a state of affairs of the mass.

His statement (as I remember it) could roughly be translated into English as there are many people in Ethiopia suffering from hallucination (my translation of the term ቅጀት in Amharic). The term hallucination has become also more common in the field of generative AI as the computer model of LLM would creates unreal results, like generating a false or unfounded responses to certain questions. Its English meaning as defined by Cambridge dictionary reads “to seem to see, hear, feel, or smell something that does not exist, usually because of a health condition or because you have taken a drug, stress is mine.

This is more than a worrisome development, to say the least. Even at an individual level such a condition is very risky and at the mass level it is a very unsettling situation. Think about it!

How did it develop to such a situation?

This needs to be carefully studied and anaylsed but I think to believe the very ubiquitous so called mass media, where everybody feels entitled to disseminate all sorts of "information" (unfiltered, unprepared and not tailored to the needs of the end recipient etc,) is having the intended or untended consequences to the mass.

Intended in case such a setup was purposely established in the name of spreading information to everybody, everywhere, without any sort of tailoring it to the need and processing capacity of the end-recipient.

Untended if it was simply happened by a mere accident, which I doubt. We are trapped, in both cases!

According to Sisay's proposition, to which many people including myself agree, there is a mass hallucination in Ethiopia today, which should be a reason for a grave concern for us as a nation and its citizens.

It is possible that the whole setup was deliberately designed to trap us with a potentially tragic consequence to us as a nation. We see already three rounds of wars in different parts of the country and in all of the cases the reason to going to war has been more of a concocted allegations of genocide by the state against the citizens, using ill-trained and unqualified personalities in the name and title of journalists, like in the following image. We must choose between the alleged genocides against all the three regions where war is going on or accept the alleged and well founded preposition of mass hallucination in the nation and prepare ourselves for the ultimate consequences of the development in this regard.



We are trapped!

People, go out and question everything you see and hear, there could be a major trap in place. We have heard about the infamous Guantanamo before years, where American security forces allegedly tortured and dehumanized the inmates there and the world was shocked and said no more to it.

Now we are also told in a broad day-light there is another instance/version of the same in Ethiopia and it is incumbent on ALL of us if this is a valid allegation by any stretch of our imagination and the Ethiopian government is torturing its own citizens the same way the Americans did against alleged international terrorists after the fateful date of 9/11 in the country in the Cuban enclave of Guantanamo.

If this is the case, then we should raise up and demand explanation, call out not in my name and ask for accountability.

If it is not (there is no Guantanamo in Ethiopia in reality), then we should vigorously question why the allegation is made? To achieve what? What is the purpose of CPJ at all? Does CPJ care about the need for information tailoring for the intended recipients of the same, the same way it vigorously demand its dissemination to all parts of the world, without any oversight and tailoring it to the need of the end-users?`

Why, why and why?

Belay was swept up in a crackdown against the press after the government declared a state of emergency in August 2023 in response to the conflict.

Everybody talks (wants to talk), no one is ready to listen. There must be something wrong here!



There is an urgent need to tailor the information we consume (or disseminate) to our particular needs, every information for everybody is a deadly mix!
