DREAM DEBUT | 16-year-old Lily Yohannes, the granddaughter of former
Ethiopia international Bokretsion Gebrehiwot, scored on her international debut for the USA on Tuesday.
1968: Gebrehiwot, among a number of Eritreans on the Ethiopian squad for AFCON, scored an 86th-minute winner as Ethiopia grabbed a monumental 1-0 win over Ivory Coast.
2024: Gebrehiwot's granddaughter scored in the 82nd minute, just 10 minutes into her senior international debut, as USA beat South Korea 3-0 in the final match of a two-match friendly.
Recap: USA picked a 4-0 win over South Korea in the first match where Naomi Girma (whose parents hail from Ethiopia) was handed the armband for the first time when Captain Horan was sub'd.
