As the whole world knows, the TPLF was a rag tag militia, composed of survivors of the great famine of the 1980s. It's "military leaders" were the likes of Siye, Hayelom and Tsadqan, who had never won a major engagement against the Derg. When it was decided by EPLF to March into Addis, seasoned Eritrean military leaders like Ali Said Abdella, the hero of Nakfa, took the overall planning and execution of the entire operation. In addition mechanized divisions of tanks, artillery, BMs and other heavy weaponry with their garages and maintenance crews and supplies were assigned on three fronts. Agames were clueless about large-scale battles and could not have taken even Shire on their own leave alone March into Addis. In fact, most TPLF leaders demmured when the EPLF argued for the necessity of defeating the Derg in Addis as they considered it to be an impossible task. Agames have desperately tried to rewrite history but as Helen Meles says in her classic song ዋርሳይ፡ "ቃታ ኣየጽረዩን ክሳብ ሽሬ፡ ተመሃሮ'ዮም ኔሮም ክሳብ ሽዋ።" (They did not master the trigger until Shire; They were only apprentices until Shoa.)
