Winston Churchill is usually regarded as one of the leading British statesmen responsible for liberating Ethiopia from Italian colonization.
After Churchill became a prime minister in May 1940, British forces defeated the Italian army in Eritrea in 1941 and placed the country under British military administration.
The following year in March of 1942 Winston Churchill proposed the idea of establishing a Jewish State in Eritrea for the Jewish people fleeing Europe, but the Jewish people fully aware of the Eritrean people's fierce determination to defend their land, they insisted on returning to their homeland in Palestine, which was then under British rule from 1918-1948.
