It appears Asmara is regarded as a dying city in the region. The question is what other city or town in Eritrea is taking over or evolving to replace it? For instance, Yergalem in Sidamo was once a dynamic city but Awassa took over it; Debre-Marqos was the leading city in Gojam, but Bahir Dar evolved replacing it. In Eritrea, is there even any dynamic town?

Don't worry about Asmara dear Abere. Building new quarters or renovating old buildings is the least of our worries right now. We are debt free and will be able to pursue political decisions that take into account the self-interest of our country and people without having to beg or sell our honor.
But we have also come to the conclusion that the only way to do that is to make sure to build a secure wall that prevents all contact with the south.

Ms. Singapore,
Why cannot I ask this question? Did I ask you why you as an Eritrean on Ethiopian forum?
I think you had better pay attention to what people say about Asmara.
71% says Asmara is a dying/declining/ city. Abere did not say it, the readers say. You made also an illogical claim that Eritrea is debt free. Well, Eritrea does not have economy and there is no point about taking debt. A poor person ( nation) cannot borrow money. No financial institution borrows to a failed system, because that country created ZERO wealth.

There is no doubt, my birth place the beautiful Bella Asmara is dying. Under the Arab slaves in Eritrea, the old and proud Bahre-Negasians are living in hell. How did the Arab slaves destroy the ancient and proud land of the Bahre Negasians and the Hamesienait Arbate Asmara?

City can be built and be destroyed, the first order of business in nation building is to build citizens who are morally obligated, socially educated and patriotic nationality. Look what is happening in Sudan, Khartoum was the best city in horn Africa, go check it out. Why?

It's because you asked that you got an answer to your question.
If you had any ounce of common sense, you would have been able to understand my reasoning quite well.
The Eritrean struggle from the beginning was about being completely independent to bear all the responsibilities that come with it regarding rights and obligations.
But Ethiopia has willingly been used as a thorn by their masters to block that drive to get in return some silly handouts. In any selfrespecting society such things are shameful but for reasons uknown for me it is normal in Ethiopia.
Slavery-oriented state of mind is a nasty thing that is making a great harm to the entire horn of africa nations.

The Nomadic low land Baria, in a developed metropolitan city, finding dumpster divers is not uncommon. Even in the developed western cities, there are unfortunate ones living on scavenging dumpsters. Wealthy cities do have unfortunate poor - it is one ugly part of urbanization and market economy - extreme riches (billionaire) Ethiopians extreme poor live in juxtapositions. In Asmara poverty is universal- every body is poor.
There is no functional economy at all.

Correct your question. Some of the cities in the choice are already dead. You must only include live cities that are dying.

Like which cities other than Asmara are dying ones? Some people indicated their opinions, but more than 7 out of 10 of the respondents agreed Asmara is a dead city. This is a valid confirmatory, although it is a bitter pill to swallow to some zealots who are burying their heads under the sand.

Due to the current violence, all cities in Ethiopia are dying. Without viable economy and security, no city can flourish. But as you indicated Asmara is already dead.So you should remove Asmara from the choices.

The starvin Marvin Ethiopian has the audacity to ask such a question.

the funny part is he considered Awassa and Baherear as a city. Low IQ indeed.

Fade-Up,
Was not Awassa the capital city of Sidamo province and Asmara the capital city of the province of Eritrea? A lot of development and economic transformation has happened to Awassa (now being the industrial and technological hub, education center, etc.) but life in the old sister city Asmara has headed to the wrong direction – Asmara is delipidated, declined, deserted. It is no more a sister city – it is a ghost city.
