Ethiopia, UK signed an MoU over Kenya-Somalia-Ethiopia border security

Ethiopia and the United Kingdom on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) “Enhance Peace and Stability in the Kenya-Somalia-Ethiopia Border”

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ethiopia (MFAE) said it “aims to boost the resilience of communities across the Ethiopia-Kenya-Somali borders to the drivers of violent extremism.”

It seems that the border security agreement was signed within the context of threat from Al-Shabaab. While the agreement is concerning “Kenya-Somalia-Ethiopia Border,” Kenya and Somalia were not a party to this MoU agreement. However, Kenya had signed an agreement with Ethiopia this week.

“The two sides [Ethiopia and UK] expressed their commitment to working together to reduce the threat posed by Al-Shabaab in the region,” said the news update from the MFAE.

If Emyee wasn’t needy and poor, should had tell the UK “stay in your lane”! “Why do I have to sign border security with you since I don’t border you?” …..but then being poor and weak doesn’t give you that right to express what you feel inside.

UK is confirming she has a strong stake in Somaliland vs. Somalia sovereignty and border dispute. It is now evident the British Somaliland will first secure recognition from its former colonizer before Ethiopia. In other words, UK is informing Ethiopia she will do first but Ethiopia follows and make the necessary readiness. However, Ethiopia may rush in doing so to take the credit herself by signing the historic MoU and recognize sovereignty of Somaliland after33 years of their yearning.

It is in other words an admission, saying Ethiopia is just doing what it has always done, doing someone's dirty work.

Anything with Britain's name on it does not bring peace. That is what most ordinary people agree on.

My head is spinning reading your excuse why Emiyee, who isn’t bordering the UK is forced to sign border agreement with its master. When one is weak and poor, principles, values and self respect goes out of the window.

Now, what does Somalialand has to do with this? The last I checked, Somaliland doesn’t even border Kenya.

This is nothing more than a cross-border cooperation in order to combat Al Shabab together. Al Shabab uses that stretch of crossing, which the three countries share.

C'mon, do you thin Kenya and Somalia would allow someone else to sign an MoU with Ethiopia to secure Keynan and Somali borders!
