The Italians engineering and the Eritreans hands built the Eritrean rail roads, the Ethiopian regimes destroyed it by dismantling the rail tracks for their bankers (which didn’t help them from destruction) and in a process the amazing Eritrean steam engines were left to rot and rust for over 28 years when the dedicate older Eritrean generation decided to at least train their next generation Eritreans and with the help of the Eritrean military conscripts the tracks were shined and completely as a new laid for over 125 KM (from Asmara to Massawa) as well as miraculously giving lives to the rusted and destroyed steam engines and showed the world what the Eritreans can achieve.
This is why the west called Eritrean train ride experience ‘Eritrea where trains go where trains are not supposed to go and where trains go over the clouds.
This wonder of the world should stay as is for the World Heritage site candidate and for the steam engines enthusiasts and the Eritreans to enjoy.
