Somalia Announces Ban on Plastic Bags to Combat Pollution

The Ministry of Environment & Climate Change has officially declared a nationwide ban on the importation, trade, and use of plastic bags, effective from June 30, 2024. This decisive action comes after extensive consultations with the business community, environmental experts, and the general public, highlighting the urgent need to address plastic pollution in the environment.

I agree with the decision to ban any form of plastic. But i don't know how could be enforced. I heard Eritrea banned plastic few years ago but I see plastic water bottles. Do you think it is possible? Then what would be the alternative though.

The ban is to tackle the impacts of pollution caused by single-use plastic carrier bags and it's not meant to ban everything that's made from a type of plastic, which would include a staggering number of things, including condoms.
