It Is Reported That Citizens Are Reported Dying From Starvation a.k.a. Famine

Post by ittuabafarda » 06 Feb 2024, 02:46

Here we are still caught up with pushing war and destruction while millions are starving and face inevitable deadly famine. We are beating the drums of war from our comfy homes while innocent citizens are dying from starvation. People can die from diseases like cancer or epidemics and their deaths can be agonizing. People dying from starvation take their last breath after going through a slow and the most agonizing deaths of all. It is confirmed that about 400 people, adults and children have now died from starvation already with much higher number of deaths to follow. I'm holding the leaders of Tigray, Amhara regions along with leaders of armed groups in Amhara, Oromia and the top echelon of the federal government responsible for every death from this avoidable famine. There will not be an iota of excuse for this tragedy.

Your Excellency Prime Minster Abiy; Citizens are dying from starvation under your watch. H.E. Regional President of Tigray Getachew Reda; This is happening under your watch. I will be holding you both responsible for every Allah blessed human life lost to starvation. What you are doing and behaving in light of this deadly calamity is utterly irresponsible and criminal. I'm not buying your diatribe trying to pass the buck. 'He did it, not me' ain't gonna flying with me or the watchful global public. People are dying from starvation in your backyard and you go home to gobble down your choice filet mignon? I can see you both where you waist line is bursting at its seams. You are sending your children to schools well fed while another child die crying from starvation? You may try playing with words to call it drought or lack of food but the reality is citizens are dying because of lack of food for no fault of their own. Damn, damn, damn, damned you two!!! Damn, damn, damned you two!!!!! Damn you!!!!

Ethiopian leaders from Haile Sillasie, to Mengistu, to Meles and now to Abiy have denied famine and starvation because I suppose it exposes their failure. It was the denial of famine that destroyed the Haile Sellasie regime. It was famine that so demoralized Ethiopians in the 1980s. And now it is destroying Abiy's PP government. The question I have is: Why has all these regimes not made food security their number one business? How many millions of Ethiopians must starve until Ethiopians say enough! How long are Ethiopians willing to be the poster people for charity organizations? It is only because Ethiopia is a dependent nation that low-level diplomats like Mike Hammer can twist its leaders' arms to do whatever the USA wants!

Greetings ituabafarda,

To begin with you are one of the few gentle Ethiopians in this forum.

As to the topic at hand, my short comment in a nutshell is that Ethiopia is suffering from devastating famine and most Ethiopians are on the brink of starving which leads to death. Hey! It seems, it is a dejavu, the people of the west, the whites will be singing once again the sad song for you "we are the world" as it was the case in the year 1984.

The culprits are you Ethiopians or your leaders and don't blame others.

Sesame,

Your historical narrative regarding the former and current leaders of Ethiopia is impressive. Is it accurate and fair? I will leave that to historians qualified for such a task. But on my part I would like to say a word or two in response.

Back in 1993 when your country became a new sovereign nation of Eritrea after a UN supervised referendum, believe me I was one of the few Ethiopians who congratulated you and your fellow citizens. At the time I had told my Eritrean brothers and sisters that with the war that brought deaths and destruction over, it is time to be mindful of not to interfere in the internal affairs of each other’s country. Ethiopians should have no business in getting involved with what is going on inside Eritrea because it was then and now a sovereign state. Eritreans should have no business in the affairs inside Ethiopia because just as Eritrea it has been a sovereign country. Your should rather deal with matters of your country of Eritrea. I am sure you have your hands full. I should do the same because the plate is loaded with a myriad of nagging issues. Make sense? I am sure with your intellectual prowess we are in congruence on this matter

Blessings to you and your family!!!

Greetings back at you kerenite,

I start to politely reminding that the name I use here and on other sites is spelled 'ittuabafarda' with 2 't's) and not with a single 't' as you used. I created that to honor the two Itu clan and subclan I am proud to come from. If you noticed I used the name you go by exactly how you wrote it. If I used the phonic rules in my language I am supposed to put it in a different way as 'karanite' but I did not because I did not want to violate your right to your name. I assume you are a native that town of fruits and veggies in central Eritrea. I had been there in the mid 1960's. My college classmate from the Middle East was pestering me about visiting places in the old country. So we traveled to various cities like Dire Dawa, Jimma, Addis/Finfine and off course Asmara. We took a bus ride all the way to Asmara and I still have the travel ticket from that trip. We had enjoyed every minute of our stay in Asmara. We wanted to see the port city of Massawa but the hotel patron advised us not to go there because it was a military barrack and not relaxing. While we were staying at the hotel we met a gentleman, a merchant, who was from the city of Keren. His Arabic was impeccable and did not take us too long to bond. He invited us to go with him to his home town and we obliged. I remember he owned an old model car from Italy and we made it there somehow. The scenery was eye catching beauty. We stayed at his home for a day enjoying all that delicious fruit from the area. The orange reminded my friend and I the orange from Jaffa. It was so sweet. I hope they still has it. With all this climate change you never know these days' We went back to Asmara the next day. We stayed one more day in Asmara and the next morning we caught another bus to Addis/Finfine. That city of Asmara was spotless clean town. It looked like the Italians never had any plan to leave. It also looked like everyone there speaks Arabic which came handy for both of us. After graduating from college in engineering my friend stayed there in the Middle East working as an executive for a petroleum company until he passed away several years ago. I moved here and the rest is history as they say.

I have a suggestion for both of us. The old country I came from, Ethiopia and your place of birth, Eritrea are two separate sovereign countries. I have no business and not entitled to meddle into the internal affairs of your sovereign nation of Eritrea. In my book the same rule also applies to you too. Every country especially those in Africa have dirt that can easily be picked on. If we engage in that dirt digging routine we will end up missing the point. It is going to be a vicious cycle with no clear winners. We will be foolishly distracted while the dirt keeps piling up. Death especially from starvation is not for entertainment and not funny at all.

Keep plugging away dear neighbor! Blessings to you and your family!!!

Greetings Ittuabafarda,

Sorry, I misspelled your pen name. Now corrected.

You have a rich story to tell including your visit to my home town Keren. I believe we tackled this issue some months ago.

Let's revisit the topic again. You mentioned the orange of Keren which are best known in the entire of Eritrea for their very delicious taste.

Even the late famous artist Tilahun Gessesse mentions Keren in one of his songs. An excerpt from the lyrics (sorry for my bad Amharic):

AQwaQuamish mar lib yasdesital... Fegegtash turu naw..

Goonchish yemimeslew ye Keren burtukan...

Having said that,

Orange juice is very cheap in Keren even the poor can afford to buy it. So is what I know about Keren. I don't know now. The last time I was in Keren was 2 decades ago. 😂🥴🤣

Take care!

We have to be extremely careful(if we care that is) in our choice of words whenever we report news during such volatile situation in the Horn of Africa. We should do everything we can to encourage the leaders of all touchy sides to calm down and head to the negotiation table and do that in the open. Thousands of Ethiopians have sacrificed their Allah blessed lives to restore order and rehab Somalia back to life after rendering itself a certified failed state for more than 32 years. It is not completely out of the woods yet. One wrong move can take it back down the same road of wanton killings and destruction. What I would like to tell my/our dear brothers and sisters in Somalia and Eritrea is their close kin and kit in Ethiopia need a sea outlet to breath. It is utterly cruel to see their more than 120 million relatives choking and suffocating next door. If it is due to a sense of revenge, that has been carried out for more than 30 years now already with no end benefit gained except a false sense of self satisfaction. Self aggrandizing by assuming 'I'm an Arab more than an African' or 'I'm more acclimated to feeling being as a Latino mulatto from Abruzzo or Calabria than being an African' is just self destructive and utterly foolishness. No matter how you look at yourself, you are just as a n--i--g--g--e--r as I am!!! Ain't gonna work for you or anyone else for that matter. The late soul legend Aretha would love to accost you with a thunderous 'Think!!!!!'

This must end. How long we keep begging when we have every thing that's sustainable to feed our peaple. Who is benefiting the war ? I understand power struggle but there should never be a war. The stupid Eritreans have more ammunition than grains. Because of Ethiopia. Why ? I don't blame them when an other stupid Ethiopians are threatening to take over their country. Not even the other ethiopians but the Tigrays. The tigrays were smart and stupid at the same time.
