Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) broke from her customary criticism of Israel Saturday to instead highlight her other top priority: the national well-being, ethnic [deleted], and border security of her native Somalia.

Footage of Omar's translated speech — wherein she appears to identify herself as a Somalian first and allegedly claims the "U.S" will do what [Somali Americans] want and nothing else" — has gone viral, prompting criticism both at home and abroad.

Well, we finally watched the Tigre diaspora rolling on their backs on the dirty streets of America and Europe.

I do not think she knows enough about us Ethiopians: We love our country to death and it has been proved since thousands years. Her Somalia is only as old as some of our living fathers. Somalia is just 66 years old. And the recent 33 years even do not count - Al Shabab controlled more than 50 % it.

Talk is cheap. If her Somalia loves each other and are united why did not they free themselves from Al Shabab? The truth is, practically speaking there is no country called Somalia - unless they want to recreate it from the ashes.

Actually, I like her speech. This is the well known knee jerk soft demo-radical useless bombastic speech. The Somali tribal psychology is highly emotional behavior. I like the speech because it is a clear message and wake up call for those foolish Somalia advocate Ethiopians who rather than stand for rights of Somailanders to their national will instead join the Somalia sovereignty legal fiction. In any case, nothing will happen on the ground. Her call for greater Somalia was tested to its fullest potential by gen. Seid Barre the results of which is now known to the world and eternity.

House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-Minn.) is calling for a House Ethics Committee investigation into Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) over a disputed translation of Omar’s remarks about Somalia and Somaliland over the weekend.

“I hold the First Amendment’s protections for speech in the highest regard; however, her remarks suggest a disregard for her oath of office in a manner that is unbecoming of an American elected official, reflect poorly on the United States House of Representatives and is a slap in the face to the Minnesotans she represents,” Emmer wrote in the letter.

She has the right to say what she believes. As A Somali woman, her first instinct might be to "defend" the interest of her birthplace, and that is ok. If there were an Ethiopian woman in US congress, I would expect her to promote the cause of Ethiopia whenever an opportunity prevails. Somone suggested because there is a Somali woman in Us congress, but not an Ethiopian that shows Somalians are superior to Ethiopians. Only a very "fertile" mind comes with such a stretch. It is wise remembering, she run for congress because there are a lot of Somalians in her district. She did not run in one Wyoming district to become a US congress woman.

Somaliman, I do not want this childish Comparision, but to be honest there are more Ethiopian professors, educators, and engineers in Us than the
whole Somali land produce. In fact, if my memory served me well, years ago one town in Maine used to complain that they are tired of the handout expectant Somalis overwhelming their small town. That was a fact. It was news for quite some time. One of the reasons I support the Somaliland independence is they are totally different from the rest of Somalis. They are industrious, intelligent, hardworking, more important, handout averse.

Omar's remarks quickly garnered condemnation from Somaliland Ambassador Rhoda Elmi, who termed her speech as "regrettably unbecoming" and "lacking in common decency."

I was also angry when I first read the translation because I personally don’t like that woman. But thinking through it, I realized that she didn’t actually say anything wrong.

No NY representative would be elected in Kings County without praising Israel and condemning Palestine and Iran. Likewise, DC Ethiopian electorates have now become so influential that candidates had to listen to them & be aware of Ethiopian politics. American politics is all about constituents and some candidates lie about their ancestry to align themselves with their constituents, so I am not sure why so many Ethiopians are joining Trump & DeSantis to gang up on Omer. She is an American-Somali and she will naturally favors her birth place over Ethiopia. An Ethiopian-American politician would do the same thing.

The U.S. government will only do what Somalis in the U.S. tell them to do. They will do what we want and nothing else. They must follow our orders and that is how we will safeguard the interest of Somalia. Together we will protect the interests of Somalia.

We Somalis are people who love each other. It is possible that some of us are rough with each other, but when the going gets tough, we are people who have each other’s backs. We are sisters and brothers, supporting each other, people who know they are Somalis and Muslims, coming to each other’s aid and aiding their brothers and sisters.

And the other day, when we heard that some Somalis, or those who say they are Somalis, entered an MoU with Ethiopia, many people called me and said, “Ilhan, you should talk to the US government; what is the US government going to do about this?”

My response was: the US government will do what we (Congressmen and Congresswomen) ask it to do. We should have this confidence in ourselves as Somalis. We live in this country. We are taxpayers in this country. This country is one where one of your daughters sits in Congress. While I am in Congress, no one will take Somalia’s sea. The United States will not back others to rob us. So, do not lose sleep over that, O Minnesotans. The lady you sent to Congress is on this, and she is as cognizant of this interest as you are.

I would like to tell President Hassan Sheikh that we are impressed with the great work you have done. You have made it known to those living in Somalia and other places that, in spite of the many challenges we face as Somalis, we are nonetheless competent people. People who believe in their country and will not allow it to be endangered.

Thus, I want to congratulate the Somalis in Minnesota and everywhere on how united you are. How you all stood by our president, because he needs our solidarity. Somalia belongs to all Somalis. Somalia is one. We are brothers and sisters, and our land will not be balkanized. Our lands were taken from us before, and God willing, we may one day seek them, but what we have now will not be balkanized.
