General Aman Andom, beginning from the street man Mengistu, the class of Ethiopian leaders deteriorated. Leaders with no class at all. Now, the latest deceptive street man named Abbiy, the weyane created weasel confessed that up until a few years ago, he did not enjoy even every day, sleeping mattress in his life. As a put it, he and his poor wife ( she seems to be very decent) lived in mud houses as they served the weyane army in Gondar. Don’t expect him to give that up very soon. Personal story, as a child, accompanying my parents in a hotel lobby (in the US) , two elder white women approached me, thinking I was the Grand Child of HIS. The old ladies asked me whether I was related to HIS. To their dismay, I notified them that I wasn’t. My parents gently told them who we were. The respect they had for HIS was tremendous. They started talking about him within themselves. That kind of class disappeared with the old man.

By the way, Mengistu is Oromo and much of his generals and ministers were Oromos. So does Abiy. These two are identical on the way they deal with political opponents and their outlook on what Ethiopia should look like. They are also good at camouflaging their desires. During the oromo led derg, much of the propuganda was made on Amharas and amharas paid dearly. That is what we see now and in TPLF era too. But this will end soon

I think Mengistu was considered Barya who inherited the Amhara domination in Ethiopia. But, Mengistu was a street strong man who was never friendly to the West. He did not favor the amharas. He was a strong wicked communist in the image of Stalin himself. I have no doubt, his hero was Stalin.. However, he was not ethnic possessed demon, but he was a killer.

Here is a story, an Eritrean old lady told me her encounter with the story of Mengistu several years ago. The events took place perhaps in the late sixties. The time was when General Aman Andom commanded the fourth division of something in Harrar. Mengistu was a stubborn soldier who worked in General Aman Andom’s office. General Aman liked him and was responsible for his military training in the US. To make the story short, Mengistu’s wife sued him for divorce. The judge of the divorce court was an Eritrean. Mengistu acted with hostility, anger and bad court manners. The judge put him in his place. Mengistu apologized for his bad behavior and fined appropriately. Divorce was granted. He was ordered to pay child alimony etc…. He saluted the judge and left the premises. Mengistu was antagonist from the start. General Aman protected him. Mengistu was able to survive in the army as the result.

Why is mengistus identity such a dispute controversy some say he is galla other say he is Amhara I always thought he was Amhara he was just dark skin Amhara maybe he had a Jarrerr mom

I don’t believe Mengistu was Amhara. He is Oromo + shanqilla breed. He has light skinned sister who has Habesha features. He was seen as the extension of Amhara dominance wrongfully.

So mengistu is galla and some other bantu bread why do people say he is amhara was it because just that amhara were his supporters or what

Haile Sellasie was considered Amhara. Though, he may be a part Oromo. So is Minilik. But, the Amharas dominated Ethiopian politics for 800 years. All of a sudden Mengistu shows up. What do you think is in people’s mind. He is Amhara though he was not.

Same as Selassie. He was not Amhara but Amharised, as only it was his father who was maternally of Amhara descent.

But sellassie did not , but still sellasies father it is claimed that his father father grand father is still disputed gallas claim his name was gudisa which is an galla name .
