Wikileaks released this classified United States diplomatic cable sent from US embassy in Ethiopia in 1979. The letter says the town of Shire is located in Western Tigray, meaning Welkait has always been an Amhara land.

Also, did you know that the TPLF begged to join the EPLF but got rejected? Yes sir! We Eritreans told the agame, whether they like it or not, they are Ethiopians.

After the border commission came with the final and binding decision,

TPLF began to settle more tigrains on the Eritrean side of the border as if those who were there were not enough.

The strange part of all of this is, there are always tigrains ready to settle anywhere even if that will costs them their lives.

In anyway, the border commission at that time had to say the following to TPLF leaders,

3. Having regard to the Commission’s Order of 17 July 2002, Ethiopia, in failing to remove from
Eritrean territory persons of Ethiopian origin who have moved into that territory subsequent to
the date of the Delimitation Decision, has not complied with its obligations;
