I think this is a way to stop the ill conceived deal between Abiye and the break away republic
I have been following this story for some time now. I have listened to the Somali parliament today in condemning this and that they oppose infringement on the Somali territory . But it is hard to make a case if the African union troops consist of Ethiopian troops and Ethiopian spies are in Mogadishu. I do not like to see the Somali republic to break apart , for it will not benefit the Somalis in the Long term.
How ever we have to protect our life line, the whole reason the president of Somaliland is doing this is to obtain diplomatic recognition . And i urge our president to consider it with consideration and also with close cooperation with the government of Mogadishu. the whole purpose for Djibouti to be fianncial superior in the region if Ethiopia remains landlocked.
i am hearing Abiye Ahmed is renting the sea shore of Somaliland for 80 million a year . and gave them a share of Ethiopian airlines and he promised them diplomatic recognition, and what drives our secessionist brothers in north western Somalia, is not the 80 million a year its not the shares in Ethiopian airline's , its diplomatic recognition, i think Djibouti should beat Ethiopia to it and then we should convince the Leader of Somaliland there is no need to rent out your particular land to Ethiopia for peanuts when u can make Billions of Dollars annually. What we also need to make clear is that Ethiopia when it claims land it never leaves , this should scare the landers.
The other options is war in the whole region cause we cannot allow for Ethiopia to have any sort of access to the sea it is not practical it is not possible we shall never respect it

Djibouti can recognise Somaliland, but that won't grant Somaliland any international recognition. Neither would Djibouti's diplomatic recognition, or any other country's one grant any international recognition.
Ethiopia being part of the AU troops in Somalia has absolutely nothing to do with this. Somalia can kick Ethiopians out tomorrow if it wanted to. Ethiopian soldiers are not in Somalia by force.
You're worried about Djibouti losing the $1 billion of earning in port fees per year that it makes from Ethiopia, I guess.
Re: Djibouti Should Recognize Somaliland Independence , before Ethiopia does , and stop Ethiopia acess to the sea
I dont care whether Somaliland is recognized even if one country recognized Somaliland it still doesn't mean the secessionist will have a a seat at the united nations far from it. Somalia still will have the upper hand from a legal point of view and still will go to the united nation condemn any one else who trespass on its territory , but this deal is dangerous. Dont make a mistake we make 2 Billion a year and counting by 2030 it will be 2,8 billion

Tigrayan brother zack, are u ok? Hulm selam new? This doesn't even make sense. Djibouti cannot do anything, this deal doesn't involve them, nor can they do anything about it. I may not agree totally with how Ethiopia went about doing it, but the country does need alternate ways to access the sea, and if SL is going to help our poor country save $$, in exchange for a mutually beneficial deal; then all is well. Ethiopia will still use Djibouti's port for the foreseeable future, do not worry, we will make sure tigray gets its share of the food too.

I think Djibouti will never anger either Ethiopia or Somaliland. She will handle these two neighboring countries diplomatically. Angering Ethiopia means losing her significant revenue, at the same time it is a no brainer, Somaliland is a country. There is no point to fight at this time to be simply used by Arab League countries while this cannot affect her sovereignty at all. Djibouti should not invite an enemy and declare war on herself. The only bully in this matter is Egypt, the rest is probably due to hate toward the incompetent Abiy Ahmed. Egypt is scared because Ethiopia can stop her.
