This is bad start for 2024 to my Eritrea. More videos on Africa's North Korea are coming.
Read the comments, they are very sad. At work, in my neighborhood, in the train or airplane, in the bar ... I can not tell good lies about Eritrea anymore. My director at work, my childrens' teachers, my doctor, my lawyer, my accountant, my golf buddies, my children's chess instructor and soccer coach ... they all can google and find out my miserable homeland.

My mother left Eritrea in the late 80's and doesn't talk much about her time there as she was conscripted at the age of 15 during the 30 year war and still has PTSD of it. Thank you for this video, it's a fascinating insight to where my mother came from and very much solidified the fact that she made the right choice leaving that hellhole.

I once met a girl and her family who told me the story of how they escaped Eritrea. It was really sad and depressing.

My mom, when she was a baby escaped Eritrea with her parents during the Ethopian war. Her dad was a soldier for Eritrea, they went to sudan first then to the US where they now reside. To this day he still has a limp due to him being shot in his leg. Good job bringing attention to this topic tough situation for the unfortunate people there

Eritrea has been quite successful in using professional cycling to sportswash its international reputation. They're not alone though. Bahrain, UAE, Israel and Kazakhstan plus a host of Petro companies are all getting in on the action.

I remember when young Eritreans campaigned in European pedestrian zones in the seventies and eighties for independence from Ethiopia. They were also in favor of democracy. Pity that their dreams did not come true! Or, worse, these guys became the new elites and did not keep their promises!

Its just hard to believe that something like this is actually happening just right now on this world

Their grandparents and great grandparents opted to be with Ethiopia knowing fully well the alternative is ugly.
Time proved them right.
With education dead, the youth escaping in every directions, the future of this militarized country is concerning specially for Ethiopia. By all means the Arabs succeeded using the volatile nation.
The beautiful people of Afar soon will regain their territory and declare independence.
