My take is the author is trying to stay in his position just so he keeps sabotaging OPDO/PP

Every time he senses he’s about to be caught by OPDO, he comes out with posts as if to prove that he’s still with the regime.

It’s unimaginable to paint all of diaspora like this but he’s saying it anyway to fool the hardliners inside OPDO/PP that he is still regime loyalist:

This is the first time I have read from the beginning to the end what he wrote. He is right on the mark. The Ethiopian diaspora has miserably failed to have any measurable impact in American politics. True, every immigrant community in USA has opted to create its own community, but we Ethiopians have stretched it to the extreme. I know a lot of old friends who do not go to any political gathering Ethiopians have had here in USA. And I am one of them. As he rightly pointed out the political ignorant run the show here. Like Eden here above I do not gauge his motivation for writing. That is beside the point. However, like him I do not believe the diaspora of my generation will change for the better. My hope is the kids who have been born here do much better than us. Whether we admit it or not the Ethiopian diaspora in USA is more tribal in its politics than the Addis Abeba residents.

Daniel Kibret has presented some hard facts that we can't refute.

- More than 70 years of presence in America (and to a lesser exten in Europe too).

The number of Ethiopians is not few, much higher than many other African and other nations around the world. But their impact in the countries of their residence is next to zero, politically, socially, economically, even academically and many more.

They rush to leave Ethiopia and then suddenly fall in love with the same country they left behind from far away and try to stir everything politically from remote (taking the driver's seat). There is no diaspora engagement in other fields, like economy, education, social activities (safe religion here, they do help importing religion that they have acquired while in foreign countries).

He presented one example of Somalia, ask yourself why are Somalians successful in integrating themselves with their host country and the Ethiopians remain the same foreigners they were before they entered their host country. Something must be wrong there. Even Eritreans are much better than the Ethiopians in this regard.

They are very much fragmented, no unity in purpose, no love for their country, they only want to exploit what the country could offer, no sense of giving back. Their only purpose is remote control of the country that they have left behind on their own will for their narrow self-interests.

Recently I heard some news on few Journalists from the state owned broad-caster itself leaving the country and applying for asylum in the US, or UK, or both. I just asked myself about why their pain get to that level only after they have reached the relatively wealthy countries in the west?

Is it to fight for the country they claim there is something wrong or to achieve something better for themselves? Next step is when we will see them on the so called youtube channels of the diaspora itself featuring these "heroes" (fighters for the nation).

I don't think Daniel Kibret is trying to impress those in the "OPDO" (which is no more existent), he has been equally critical of those disillusioned youth in the name of Fano, which has created unimaginable misery to their own people already, in the name of liberating them. I have shared his number of posts in this regard already.

He might have any intention, but what he wrote under this post is the bitter truth, we have to swallow it.

yes, we have exported our "tribalism" (bad or good) back to the homeland. Before diaspora people in the country could mix with each other, chat and exchange ideas over politics or other social (communal issues), but would never imagine of going out and kill someone from the "other" kilil or ethnicity for the sole purpose of this.

This is purely the making (invention) of Ethiopian diaspora, no one can refute that!

The central thesis of yours and that of Daniel Kibret are diametrically opposed, hard to reconcile them.

Daniel Kibret is calling for unity, united you can get stronger and make an impact. Disintegrated like the Ethiopian Diaspora you are condemned to perpetual weakness and lack of any meaningful impact on your environment.

Yours has been always to look for ways on how to separate the different components and magnify their differences of all sorts so that at the end the overall entity remains weak and without any impact. Precisely that is what the Ethiopian diaspora is doing (overtaken by the faction represented by your thesis).

We could have also nurtured our diversity without losing sight of the overall well-being of the whole and without tilting the balance in favor of one side. Keeping the balance has been the intriguing challenge we have faced all along. At the end we all lost and remained effect-less for over 70 years. This is what Daniel has pointed out in his short but masterpiece post.

The fact that the likes of Daniel Kibret, Temesgen Tiruneh, General Abebaw Tadesse, Her Excellency President Sahelwork Zewdie and many more are part of the top power echelon of this government is an enrichment for all the rest in the government and there is no logical reason why the likes of Shimeles Abdisa or any other members of the Government would resent their being there. It defies any reasonable logic in my view.

This guys are working hard to make an impact and see the changes at the end of their tenure, they should be grateful for any lending hand they may get from any corner.

It is part of the pattern in your camp to create all sorts of claims and end-up defying a common logic, no wonder here.

The people who killed Hachalu Hundessa and immediately claimed it was Abiy Ahmed, those who killed top government officials of the Amhara region and similarly immediately claimed it is Abiy Ahmed who killed them wouldn't wonder me if they claim any other things that defy a common sense.
