In a classic return in kind, PM Abiy Ahmed Ali has dared to kick hard on the dying lion Issaias Afeworki's face. Issaias Afewroki's face is so bloody and bandaged, he would not dare to participate in a very important global Chinese conference where Abiy Ahmed and the Kenyan Ruto are dancing. Issaias has no choice except to [deleted] his wounds and send his diplomats to his Arab masters in Cairo.
After 30 years of separation from Ethiopia, finally Issaias Afeworki understood the limitation of Eritrea in military and defense capacity, diplomatic muscle, economic output, natural resources, energy production, strategic depth and above all population size, relative to Ethiopia.
After 30 years of war and as the main architect of the struggle against Mengistu Hailemariam, Issaias was shocked in 1991 when he found out that his fair share from the long war was a tiny Eritrea with devastated economy of only 3 million people while the Tigrayans received everything and more than they can swallow.
That was the whole reason behind the Badme War.
According to Eritrea's former defense minister General Mesfin Hagos' recent book: Issaias had always wanted to be at the helm of Ethiopia and lead it.
However, there was so much euphoria in 1991 Eritrea, this could not be done. Plus, Meles Zenawi and Sibhat Negga were too foxy and smart to prevent this.
In the recent war too, Issaias tried to compensate what he had lost in 1991, another unity with Ethiopia with Abiy Ahmed but the obstacle were again, the Tigrayan Weyanes. Issaias Afeworki's condition was, unification with Ethiopia - yes; on a condition that we first crush Tigray.
For a reason that is yet unknown, Abiy Ahmed pulled off the agreement with Issaias at the last moment and made a unilateral agreement with the TPLF in Pretoria.
Issaias felt betrayed, and now we are in the present predicament.
Sadly, the angry and dying old lion was seething at the betrayal because he felt that was his last chance at Ethiopia.
Both Issaias and Abiy agreed:

Ethiopia and Eritrea will be one-nation soon.
