IMF visited Ethiopia to discuss loan request, talks to continue
International Monetary Fund (IMF) staff visited Ethiopia from September 25 to October 3, the fund said on Thursday, as Ethiopia continues to seek a loan almost a year after a ceasefire was reached in its civil war.
"Discussions will continue in the coming weeks to reach an agreement on a set of reforms for the requested program," IMF mission chief for Ethiopia Alvaro Piris said.
"Important steps that have been taken to bring down inflation and stabilize the economy, including significant fiscal and monetary tightening."
In early 2021, Ethiopia requested a broader debt rework under the Group of 20's Common Framework, an initiative for restructuring government debt aimed at low-income countries. But progress was complicated by a two-year civil war that broke out in November 2020.

Itβs interesting how the ferenjis see Tigray war was a civil war but the one raging now in amara kilil is not a civil warβ¦I guess if the rebel is their telalaki they recognize it, if not no need to recognize it

My friend that has always been the case. Bribing few lost souls with printed money and taking people's resources in darkness has always worked for them in the past and will even continue in the future until many countries are blessed with farsighted political leaders.

Last time the IMF's director visited Ethiopia, she demanded the privatization of State owned industries, such as the Ethiopian Airlines and other public services in exchange for approval for more loans. This is not a good sign.
