I was watching documentary on how the Gurage people get prepared for Meskel celebration, well ahead of the festivity. To me the preparation unique in that they help each other in getting ready all the things they need for Meskel, like accumulating [deleted] through " [deleted] Equb". The whole process is fascinating which deserves UNESCO heritage listing. I lived with Gurage people, but did not know how much time and energy spent on it. Kitfo is part of the whole celebration and it can be included in the process. I will post the documentary when i find the link.
Just a question: Are Gurage celebrating Meskel as a culture or religion?

ያልከው ትክክል ነው፤ ደሮ የመስቀል ደመራ ብዩኔስኮ ሲመዘገብ አብሮ የጉራጌ መስቀል ፕሮሴሱን ፣ ምግቡን ፣ በዓሉን ጭምር አብሮ መመዝገብ ነበረበት ። ያ ሳሆን ቀርቶ የተመዘገበው ደመራው (እሳቱ) ብቻ ነው ። የጉራጌ መስቀል የአንድ ሳምንት ፌስቲቫል ነው ። ምጅር የምንለው ደመራው ብቻ ነው ከኦርቶዶክስ ጋር የሚያያዝነው ። ከመስከረም 13 ጀምሮ የሌማት ማይ (የመሶብ ቀን) በሚባል ይጀመራል ፤ ከዚያም የሴቶች መስቀል (የጎመን ክትፎ) ቀን አለ፤ ከዚያም የልጆች መስቀል (ደንጌሳት) አለ ። ከዚያም ትልቁ መስቀል (የእርድ መስቅል) አለ ። ከዚያም ከትልቁ መስቀል ቀን ጀምሮ የአዳብና (የወጣቶች መተጫጫ) ያደባባይ በዓላት ይደረጋሉ ። ስለዚህ በመሰረቱ የግማደ መስቀሉ መገኛ እና የጉራጌ መስቀል አንድ አይደሉም ።

መስቀል ሃይማኖት ነው ወይስ ካልቸር? መስቀል ሁለቱም ነው ። ሁለቱም ብቻ ሳይሆን አንድ ናቸው ። እንደ ቋንቋ ተመራማሪ ባለኝ ግምት መስቀል ከግማደ መስቀሉ እጅግ በፊት የነበረ ፌስቲቫል ነው ። የብርሃን ፌስቲቫል ነበር። መስቀል ሕይወት ማለት ነው። ለጉራጌዎች ይህ ምስጢር ያለው ኬር በሚሉት ሁላቀፍ የቅድ ስናና ባርኮት ቃል ውስጥ ነው ። ኬር የተባረከ የተቀደሰ ማለት ነው ። ስለዚህ መስቀል የኬርታ፣ የባርኮት፣ የቅድስና ጸሎትም፣ ምርቃትም ፣ ምስጋናም ፌስቲቫል ነው።

መስቀል ታቦት ወጥቶ ማህሌት ተቁሞ የሚከወን የቅዳሴና ጸሎት በአል አይደለም ፤ ግን በመስቀል ዝግጅት ሁሉ የኬርታ ባርኮትና ምርቃት የሚደረግበት መንፈሳዊም ደስታዊም በዓል ነው።

ይህ ሁሉ ካልኩኝ በኋላ ደመራ ለምን ይተከላል? እስት ለምን ይነዳል? ይህ ነው ትልቁ ምስጢር? እሳት የብርሃን ምልክት ነው! ብርሃን ሕይወት ነው! ከዚህ በላይ ያለው ምስጢር ላንተ ትቼዋለሁ ! The Festival of The Holy Cross is The Festival Light! ብርሃን ሕይወት ነው !ያ ደሞ የሚሆነው በጸደይ መጀመሪያ ወር መስከረም ነው !
