Attributed to Joseph Goebbels, the Propaganda Minister of Adolf Hitler.“If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”
The point I want to highlight here is if the Big Lie in our part of the world can sustain itself under all conditions, indefinitely. Amhara Abiyot has reinvented this tested and long held dogma and used all the means to spread the lie against the state and its key officials. They relied on the very fact that the propaganda machine (calling itself "mass media" in the political and diplomatic jargon) and used the resource at their disposal as if there is no tomorrow. Now the people itself, the base and bearer of the brunt of the burden of the effect on the ground, can no more cope with the unabated lie fabricating machine.
They (the Big Lie bearers in our part of the world) heard it functions but never questioned if this will also hold true under all conditions.
There is even an attempt to give it a scientific explanation, to help it spread to all other parts of the world.
