It would be naive to think that most of these host nations were ignorant of the fact that all these asylum-seekers were not Eritreans. At the time, ignoring the glaring fact that their system could be exploited by others, and lumping them in one box together as Eritreans was politically convenient, as that cudgel could be deployed against the Eritrean government.
