I was thinking, but not pretty sure, that this would happen after watching how the reception ceremony for the PM of Ethiopia was held at his arrival in the country yesterday.

Ethiopia will going to contribute its share in shaping the future global order, for a better and just world order.

Co-founder of AU, UN, Non-Allignment Movement (NAM) and now Member of hiertherto BRICS, which will be named differently in the future.

It would be great if they could create their common currency to trade between them. But as for now and the near future this is impossible due to the economic, political, and geographic disparities between member states.

The dedollarisation is not something new, as it was even discussed during the early stages of the formation of the OAU. The OAU itself hasn't achieved anything, leave alone with regard to the dedollarisation or replacing the dollar with either gold or something else as the the World's Reserve Currency.

They can achieve a few other things but not decrowning the world's current reserve currency - the US dollar. Japan has been interested in the decrowning of the US dollar, but it knows it's quite impossible in any knowledgeable's imagination.

Well its a great opportunity for Ethiopia(ns) for long run and to neighbors too...if Ethiopian leaders respectfully/genuinely work with neighbors instead of trying to be an anchor state or sole center of attention.

For the short run we will see if this helps to stop the self flip-flopping and lekaffi-ness (melekekaff) being exhibited...due to pressures from the TPLF Uncle (Sammy by way of IMF/WorldBank, sanctions, & willing greed, etc)

From standpoint of BRICS they want to be sure to pull those with biggest economies , populations/markets, and financing into their pool provided that they are reliable and not flip-floppers or agents of the uni-polar financial system. It certainly was laughable for France to ask to join BRICS...given that its an integral part/beneficiary of the exploitive uni-polar Banking system.

However the BRICS shouldn't forget the smaller countries that have shown responsibility with their finances for benefit of their people without much help from uni-polar institutions (IMF/WB)...and also shouldn't forget the countries that have a proven record of pushing for a multi-polar world while being sanctioned/stiffled by the uni-polar world/institutions. Of course they can always help to provide financing in the meantime to such countries until they add more to their network.

I don't know much about its history and didn't follow the story about it during the current summit. But I think to have heard somewhere that the term is not meant to imply crafting a policy to replace US dollar with a different one, it is rather meant to implement a policy where you can reduce its significance in global trade. Members of the BRICS countries do have a significant economic power and with that also a significant leverage to make an impact on the world economy and trade, I think.
