The wife thinks love to Dawit, her son, requires her to uphold his cause. She recognizes there are other Journalists in the same conditions and the entire population is impacted by this cruel system. So she stands with the struggle and the Youth that giving hell to HGDEF.
The brother thinks love to Dawit, his brother, requires him to serve HGDEF by going against the Youth Movement in order to get better treatment for his brother from HGDEF.
In the end, it’s about human nature and how strong or weak we are as individuals and as society to stand up to a cruel system.
I see many attacking the brother for selling out the struggle for a just system but let’s understand he is a human that is traumatized by the loss of his brother to a cruel system that isolated him from human contact for 22 years.
Let’s be firm in saying he is wrong to serve HGDEF this way but let’s understand him. It’s not a criminal behavior but a mental health issue.
This family is not isolated case. Many families go through this. They constantly struggle if they should speak up or keep silent. If they speak up, they contribute to shorten the span of this inhuman system yet they invite retribution. If they keep silent, they allow the system to go on inviting the continuation of the sufferings.
A perfect example of this conundrum resides in none other than regime operator, Ambassador Beyene Russom, who willingly is serving the cruel system, the same system that jailed and keeps his wife, the mother of his children, in total isolation from any human contact including the Ambassador himself.
Is Ambassador Beyene Russom serving this system to get better treatment conditions for his wife, a veteran EPLF? Has the treatment improved?
One thing Beyene Russom and Dawit’s brother are not seeing is that the suffering of their loved ones didn’t and isn’t happening in isolation. The entire population is impacted by this system so inhumane. The individual family gets solution when society gets solution.

Re: Dawit Isak, both his wife and brother love him but show it differently
I wonder what the butcher would say when asked why he's detaining thousands of innocent people in prison without charges and incommunicado!
But the trouble is that no Eritrean in Eritrea can dare to do so for fear of joining the thousand of prisoners in question, and no foreign journalist is allowed to enter this prison camp, as that's what Afwerki has transformed Eritrea into.
I bet Afwerki's servants in the diaspora advised Dawit Isaak's brother to speak as such if he's willing to ever see his brother again alive, even though no one even know whether he's still alive, as his family was denied access to him.

I think I understand where you are coming from. His brother probably thinks that him serving Isaias & Co diligently would probably induce Shaebia treat his imprisoned brother less cruelly.eden wrote: ↑31 Jul 2023, 14:13The wife thinks love to Dawit, her son, requires her to uphold his cause. Isaak's daughter said she tried to understand the regime supporters but it is hard.

Sarcasm,
I have another possible reason why humans like Dawit’s brother do favors to their own tormentors: They probably blame the justice seekers for their loss. If there was no struggle and everybody accepted HGDEF rule, may be Dawit Isak and all the other political prisoners would have lived normal lives.
It’s twisted logic but having gone through the loss of family to life of total isolation with no proof of life or proof of death, this is not far fetched. Dawit’s brother is too hurt and beyond grief and it’s not unthinkable that he can blame the Youth that’s rooting for Dawit and others in his condition of the most inhumane treatment. Trauma may cause you to side with your tormentors and go against those who fight for you. This says a lot about the level of Trauma inflicted by HGDEF inhumane policy of keeping humans in isolation, not just from family but from any humans.
