Basically, the history of Axum is exactly what this man described. The then King of Axum listed the names of the tribes that his kingdom defeated. I remember reading this inscription in Ethiopian History 101 - General Education College Level Course. Interestingly, there had been no mention of Tigre, at all. Even “Agame” is originally not Tigre. Well, those who call themselves Tigre may be offended by this true history but should accept the fact . Even if they do not accept it, the fact outlives them. Having said this, the history of Axum is a dead one. The generation cannot live talking folklore of Axum. A dead history does not feed bread or pour Mena from the sky. This generation has to make its own history. I also doubt that the Kingdom of Axum had such a valid socio-political and economic influence given the rugged surface of Ethiopia and geographic distance. In old time Ethiopia, legend travels far distances than actual governance. However, I cannot deny how Ethiopians in many ways both physical and in cultural life are similar. Do not get stuck in the dead past. In the longest 3000 years history of Ethiopia, the most revolutionizing King is Emperor Menelik II – he modernized Ethiopia and took her to the world stage. It is that kind of leader that today’s Ethiopia need the most – a unifying, selfless, compassionate role model, a change agent. Let’s not forget the Biblical saying "So the last will be first, and the first will be last." Thus, stuck in the past is a pure sign of utter decline.
