National flag carrier Ethiopian Airlines has been summoned for a court hearing Friday over claims by a human rights group that it discriminated against travellers from Tigray, according to court documents seen by AFP.

The airline, which has a monopoly on domestic flights, resumed air links between the capital Addis Ababa and the Tigray region after a peace deal was signed in November 2022 ending two years of conflict in northern Ethiopia.

According to the group's lawsuit, Ethiopian Airlines also systematically applied the maximum fare for flights from Tigray to the Ethiopian capital.
The NGO said it wanted the tribunal to order the airline to "lift its prohibition on 15-60 year-olds from travelling from Tigray to Addis Ababa and foreign destinations," to provide equal service to all customers and to stop the "price discrimination."

It is also seeking an apology for the "monetary and moral" damage caused.

The dumb and weak Abiy should expel the NGOs whose purpose is to further the west’s agenda and try to hand tie Ethiopia by filing law suit and unfounded allegations.
Saying that the funfunat aliet and ungrateful agames should not have rights. Period. They all are still acting as if they are not Ethiopians except when they need Ethiopia’s services like in this case an airline services.

are you ok Cigar? you may question the motive of the west over its policy but it seems unfair for you to dismiss the allegations against ET which is well documented.

This is a common practice by ET Airline. They jack up the ticket prices for all flights from Amhara Region as well. You don't hear anybody advocating for the Amhara people, tho. OPDO is desparately employing all means available to cut the normal flow of people from the northern part of the country to Addis. The Abyiot OPDO administration is a one man rule which uses all resources at its desposal to abuse citizens. Hopefully, it won't last long!
