As a tradition thought, when you meet Ethiopian or Eritrean on the streets of foreign land, to avoid upsetting them by saying, Are you Ethiopian? Are you Eritrean? You would use, are you Habessa? It seems using this term is less controversial than misidentifying an Eritrean as Ethiopian.

But people like Tesfabis and all agames, if you misidentify them and say to an agame, “Are you Eritrean?” then you had made their day

How come every Eritrean I know identifies as Habesha especially your youths the only exception are the Bejanized Tigreyit. I have yet to ask Saho and Bilen if they identify as Habesha although they are partially Habesha.

Habesha is an Arabic word for Abyssinia and Abyssinia is an old name for Ethiopia and thus Habeshas are Ethiopians.
