The core of a democratic governance is the ability of the stakeholders to raise critical questions and seek answers. Those who have been asked should be in a position to address such questions, those who have labelled (unfounded) allegations against others should be required to substantiate their accusations and be held accountable themselves. This is how a democratic governance could be nurtured and be developed to the next level.
The current Ethiopian parliament has been one of those very few where critical questions have been raised, and also addressed. There was even a demand in the parliament for the resigination of the PM, while the person who raised the demand was from a party that represents a tiny fraction of the parliament, as such doesn't entitle him to raise such a question. It could be considered an abuse of one's own responsibility in such cases.
Currently I don't see that much lively debate in the regional parliament of the regions, or don't know if such a debate might be allowed. But I saw one time when Obbo Taye Dendea Aredo was raising a critical question over the report heard in the session. Oromia region can't afford to suppress such legitimate questions or try to cover up.
The people have a critical concerns with regard to many issues currently prevailing in the region like lack of peace, security, lawlessness and lack of accountability of those in power. People can't go after their businesses freely, there are a lot of robbery, kidnappings, ransoms, and many more. And the regional government seems to be either not willing to address it effectively or unable to do it.
In the abscence of peace there is not any development that is going to be sustainable. If you have failed to do your homework, then you are also required to vacate the positions, it belongs to the people, not you.
By saying this I am not trying to accuse anybody so far, or legitimizing the accusations raised against those in power. I don't have any concrete evidence for both sides, but trying to make my ears open for both sides.
Truth should prevaile!
