If Addis Ababa University has got a procedure in place (hope it should) to go after a proclaimed plagiarism and investigate, then it is upto the task of that institution, not the task of a certain CIA agent, failed on more than one occassion to try to prescribe what should happen with the "Ethiopian Empire". Interestingly Alex de Waal didn't show his uncomfortableness with the mother of all empires in the world, which is the british Empire, before showing that much concern for the tiny "Ethiopian Empire", if at all. If an empire is an evil, then the mother of all evils should be that of his own nation and it should have been dismantled already long time ago. Alex de Waal didn't show any sort of a concern here, a hypocrite.
They claimed to have used a software to assess the degree of plagiarism in Dr. Abiy's thesis and ordered to revoke it. Is there any more stupidity on this planet than such a claim?
Software? who developed it, who approved it, where was it used to do the job and how was the official success rate? What is the degree of a bias in it? Or is it without any sort of a bias? I beg to differ, even the so called top computer machine learning algorithm is alleged to have substantial level of a bias in it.
If there is possibly a bias in it, not mentioing how the methodology was applied in this particular case, then there is no credible university around the world that is going to base its academic decision based on a biased software tool.
Alex de Waal, if not so icompetent, should first turn to the concerned authorities and get their approval (admission) for the tool, before trying to "apply" it and then turn around to make a political statement. This attempt has also failed already on the technicality base like his attempt to dismantle the "Ethiopian Empire".
