Abiy is changing/ shifting his alliances from time to time to consolidate his power and stir Ethiopia in the direction of his "Medemer Philosophy" . The following is the path he has followed so far and is expected to follow :
- For last five years he allied with Eriteria and the far right Amhara- exterimists to neutralize the threat of TPLF and the far left federalist forces, mainly from Oromia. Both Isaias and the Amhara- exterimists supported him to use him as their puppet toward eliminating TPLF and control Ethiopia. However, after the signature of the Pretoria Agreement , Abiy has started to incrementally decrease his relationship with his former allies and has deepened his relationship with TPLF .
- As the threat against his power increases from his former allies ( Isaias and Amhara- exterimists) , he is playing the Oromo nationalist card and strengthening his relationship with TPLF.
- Once the threat from Isaias and Amhara- exterimists is effectively neutralized , he is going to dissociate himself from the Oromo exterimists but his relationship with TPLF will be further deepened to the extent of forming an integrated Federalist Party , where a tacit alliance between Tigray and Oromia Federalist Forces shall tip the power balance to save Ethiopia from disintegration and propel it toward fast development and prosperity. Ultimately Abiy will openly follow his middle centeric "Medemer Philosophy " which is similar to the
middle centeric TPLF ideology of building united Federalized Ethiopia under the concept of " Unity with Diversity " . To that effect Abiy's ongoing actions to eliminate all regional forces will strengthen national unity.
