Reverend Abay Melese, an Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo priest of Horsisa Saint Mary's Church, was stoned to death on Thursday, March 23, 2023, around the area called Haile Garment in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The elderly priest was walking home after celebrating the Divine Liturgy of the Lenten season when the incident occurred. Witnesses stated to a Church media outlet that servants of the church were verbally harassed and faced threats for some time now and added that security forces deleted pictures and videos of the incident from the phones of onlookers.
