About four years ago Eri-Internationalsports introduced you to the family duo of Siem and Winta Woldeab, who hail from the San Diego area. Recently we did a feature story on Siem’s success at the University of Texas, where he is dominating in his Tennis career with the Longhorns. Meanwhile, his sister who has gradually made her way to the upper echelons of college Tennis is currently one of the top players for the great Ivy league University in New York. Columbia University’s tennis program is one of the best in the country, but what attracted Winta to attend Columbia is the education that comes with it. The young Eritrean-American, flew across the USA to attend college in New York from sunny Southern California and seems to be excelling at her sport.

in 2021 as a first year member of the Lions, Winta finished with a 3-3 overall singles record … Also played extensively at doubles with an 8-11 combined doubles record … Finished 6-4 overall, 2-2 in Ivy League play, 1-3 at No. 2 doubles and 5-1 at No. 3 doubles with teammate Anna Zhang.
Not a bad result, considering that any NCAA division 1 tennis program is no walk over. Winta, is currently a sophomore and her future is bright. It is Eri-internationalsports hope that along with her sibling Siem and Hermon Mikael they can jumpstart an interest in the beautiful sport of Tennis with our Eritrean community, as well as supporting tennis programs in Eritrea.
Eri-Internationalsports would like to also salute Winta on this special month of the international women’s day and wishing her much success, as she continues her career at Columbia University in NYC.
