Kassa Mercha betrayed Emperor Tewodros II in the service of the British. As a reward, the British left him excess weapons they had on their way out of the country. With the help of the leftover weapons, he became Yohannes IV. As an emperor he continued his servitude to the British by harassing the Mahdists who were fighting tooth-and-nail with the British/Egyptians to free themselves from colonialism. ONE THING MUST BE CLEAR, the Mahdists had no intention of waging war on Habeshas. They were forced into. In the process Gondar was sacked, and the Uncle-Tom emperor lost his neck.
Today Kassa Mercha's descendent continue the tradition by serving British/American/Egyptian interest in the region.

Anyways his betrayal against Tewodros was payed back by his matrydom in Gondar
