Messi won the Golden Ball for being the best player in this world cup. He has won everything in his football career including La Liga many times, Champions Leaugue few times, Copa America, and now the World Cup which was the icing on the cake as this is his last in the World Cup.
By far, Messi is the best player in football.
I would put the best five in this order:
1. Messi
2. Maradona
3. Ronaldino
4. Pele
5. Ronaldo R7

Messi didn't win the WCGB award. That matters a lot on World Stage. 
You shouldn't forget also that the Argentinians were cheating through out the final game and got defeated by Saudi Arabia with six Eritrean players.

4_Zidane
5_Kylian Mbappé
6_Messi
7_Beckenbauer

Abe you make me laugh when you say that six eritreans players won against argentina.
Now you remind me of the funny egyptians. Egyptians by nature are blessed with humour, for instance they say umdurman in sudan and umsterdam in holland and they say they are similar.
Here they say the best french player mpabbe hails from imbaba, a famous neighborhood in cairo. They want to own him. Hence his name is distorted.
