The journalist and political analyst in the affairs of the Horn of Africa, Abdel Moneim Abu Idris, expected the impact of the agreement between the Tigrai and the Ethiopian government on the situation in the Al-Fashqa border area.
Abu Idris told Radio Dabanga that the agreement will open the door to differences over the subordination( የይገባኛል ጥያቄ ) of the region bordering Sudan, referring to the historical differences between the Amhara and the Tigray regarding this matter.
He explained that the agreement did not talk about this point, which will create major complications in the future, given that the party to which the area will devolve will directly overlook the Al-Fashqa area. He pointed out to the great economic importance of the Al-Fashqa area, especially in the field of agriculture and other fields.
He stressed that the terms of the agreement may set off a time bomb in the region, especially with regard to the disarmament, demobilization and integration of the Tigrayan forces into the Ethiopian forces.
Abu Idris stressed that America threw its weight to implement this agreement in its current form and exerted great pressure on both sides in order to exclude any Russian presence in the region.
The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has expressed its deep satisfaction and welcomes the signing of the Agreement on Cessation of Hostilities between the Government of the Republic of Ethiopia and the Tigrayan People's Liberation Front, which took place in South Africa on Wednesday.
