Forces in Ethiopia’s Tigray region said they are ready to observe an immediate ceasefire and accept an African Union-led peace process to end a conflict with federal forces that has stretched over nearly two years.
“We are ready to abide by an immediate and mutually agreed cessation of hostilities in order to create a conducive atmosphere,” the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) said in a statement.
Tigray’s negotiation team includes TPLF spokesman Getachew Reda, and General Tsadkan Gebretinsae, who are “ready to be deployed without delay,” the statement added.
The Ethiopian government formed a committee in June to negotiate with forces from the Tigray region.
Ethiopian government spokesperson Legesse Tulu was not immediately available for comment.
The African Union (AU) welcomed the TPLF’s announcement, calling it a “unique opportunity towards the restoration of peace” in Ethiopia, the AU chairperson Moussa Faki Mahamat said in a statement late Sunday.
The TPLF had previously expressed major concerns over the AU’s mediation and demanded the government restore major services such as banking and communication to Tigray before any talks can hold. The federal government, however, insisted there must be no preconditions set before the AU intervenes.
The United Nations also welcomed the development and is ready to support the AU-led peace process, U.N. spokesman Stephane Dujarric said in a statement.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres called on “all parties to seize this opportunity for peace and to take steps to end the violence definitively and opt for dialogue,” Dujarric said.
Military hostilities between Ethiopian government forces and Tigrayan forces resumed last month after a months-long ceasefire.

TPLF seems to be lacking the weapon ammunition so it is failing to repeat the 2021 war
Remember the TPLF got defeated in
Debark/Debat Front
Debre Tabor/Gashena/Lalibela Front
Amdework-Sekota-Abergele front
Kasargita/Afar Front
Zobel/Afar Front
Mekane Selam/Akesta/WereIllu Front
so it fled Debresina North Shewa back to Alamata Raya (North Wollo) to save itself from complete collapse. Abiy Ahmeds truce saved TPLF

When they call for "negotiations", it's to buy time to recruit & rearm.

But who is Tsadkan to negotiate with?
He had no one in mind to negotiate with last time and I don't think he will have one now either (obviously not his choice this time round) .

Folks, it is over. Unless Abiye Ahmed, once again, screw this one up. The finishing line is as important as the war campaign.
The TPLF had already reached out to the intermediaries with a package of unconditional ceasefire and surrender proposals that includes a safe sanctuary for high ranking TPLF officials.
The UN statement welcomed the pleas. The US wants to save the TPLF with a minimum damage possible. The US is desperately looking the way out for the TPLF as it needs its presence in the area.
Things will clear out in a few weeks.

My take is UN wants Tplf to survive this war if it can not win and wahabi abiy want Tplf to survive if it can not be a real threat to him. And Tplf do not want the world and the tigreans to believe it lost the war again. Meaning ceasefire is a win win situation for all 3 of them. That is why tplf made such statement with UN and wahabi abiy would of cource be happy to accept.
Well, Amhara, Eritrea, Afar and majority of Ethiopians would not be happy to do negotiation with tplf. That is why Eritrean forces are pushing deeper. Eritrea will be forced to withdraw when the negotiation is officially through. Then, we will see tplf and abiy grouping to fight Amara, Eritrea and Afar.

Doma Ras cadrie,
It is copied and pasted directly from the source.
The issue here is how the incompetent PM will screw this one up just like he did the last one. That is worth discussing not a statement date. Dedeb.
