Do you really think he did it for Ethiopia? The Agame rat had different ideas.
1) The project was designed to divert attention of Ethiopians. The Arab spring was in full swing and the TPLF thugs were scared that Ethiopians might rise to get rid of them.
2) The project was a perfect way of looting Ethiopia. It was manned by Metec, a TPLF looting agency. The cement was suppled by Tigrayan factories. And so on.
3) There was a very sinister design in the location of the dam. After disintegrating Ethiopia, Agames were going to annex Beni Shangul into Abay Tigray.
The ouster of the TPLF was only delayed. Metec and the billions that was stolen has evaporated. And the dream of Abay Tigray is dead! Meles must be squirming in hell to see that none of his evil intentions have succeeded.

I mean all their actions were being done in secret. It is ok to hide their agenda from Eritrea, but if the good will was to benefit the Ethiopian people, why the other Ethio officials not been told and why hide the 85% of Ethio sophisticated arms in tigray, why not in other parts of Ethiopia……like in the center of Ethiopia which can serve the whole Ethiopia.

To be honest, I do not believe this come out of sincerity for the good of all Ethiopians. Meles Zenawi always had two people or two countries. In his own words the "gold" and "non-gold" or Abay-Tigray and Ethiopia. Like the European colonials used to be farming and mining in Africa, but building cities and sophisticated infrastructure back home in Europe, the TPLF ring leader was using Ethiopia to advance the envisaged long-term of Abay-Tigray. To this effect, Meles Zenawi was stealing (plagiarizing) all the master plans of previous leaders like Emperor Haile Selassie and Mengistu Hailemariam and many people to this date believes this is solely his. I remember, during the peak time of the fund raising campaign, TPLF controlled ETV inadvertently released or showed a map of Abay Tigray republic that included lands from Benishangul and Amhara to stealing the Abay River and the dam itself. Why is TPLF now fighting a war we call it unnecessary, but very essential for the TPLF? The answer is simple, they were laying their eggs and they want to collect them back. Unfortunately, they were trying to hatch eggs that do not belong to them to take it all with them. Should the Devil give TPLF the credit for the untimely death of millions of Ethiopia? I do not know the answer from the mothers of the 900,000 Tigres dead in the last round of heated war.

Regardless of what was being played behind the scenes, I give him credit for that particular interview. I also give him a credit for the argument that he presented to retain AU in Addis Ababa.
