What is the psychological reason behind people getting selfies clicked with celebrities?

Celebrities are idols for many of their admirers. So, it is a great experience for them to be photographed with their idol. It is a matter of pride and a great joy. They have larger than life idea about their favourite celebrity and they consider it extraordinary to be photographed with them.

And also when you post a pic in close proximity with a celebrity , your status jumps a notch up among your colleagues, social group. It's kinda announcing for every one to acknowledge that you have something better than others , and the likes you get on that pic is a big massage to you, sort of big clap , approval . So this is one subtle way to boost your self-esteem.
