How's a pro-Abiy Tigrayan better than Abiy? Not being Tigrayan is the least of Abiy's shortcomings. This reminds me of a Tigrugna proverb ካብ ጨባ ዘይተረኽበስ፤ ካብ ማይ ጨባ (ከወተት ያልተገኘ ከአጓት). Abiy had great acceptance level in Tigray during his honeymoon days although the Tigrayan community was aware of his ethnic background.

The relationship broke-down when he signaled his intentions to sabotage self rule / self determination and end the constitutional federal system. That was his major quarrel with Tigray and other federalist forces. His ethnicity was not a problem. A Tigrayan who is opposed to self rule / self determination and the constitutional federal system will be opposed furiously by Tigray regardless his ethnic background. It is important to appreciate the fundamental issue and cause of the conflict in order to suggest solutions.
