Ras Wolde Giorgis Aboye (later Nigus Wolde Giorgis, King of Gondar) was a grandson of King Sahle Selassie of Semein Shewa and first cousin to Emperor Menelik II, and a first cousin once removed to both Empress Zewditu and Emperor Haile Selassie. He was one of Menelik's leading generals, who led several campaigns in the south and helped re-incorporate various regions back into the Ethiopian Empire. He was the senior prince of the Imperial blood during the reign of Empress Zewditu, and was long married to a neice of Empress Taitu.
