High school students debate in English. Their command of the language is impressive......of course, without discounting the substance of the topic!

I'm in awe! This is far beyond my expectations of Eritrean students.

The purpose of education shouldn't be only to produce a generation who is equipped with a specific knowledge in a certain field....
Eritrea cannot afford to have a generation who can construct buildings, but not able to read their surroundings/world, analyze, formulate or construct ideas .......Education can play a role in removing a single-dimension way of looking at things. One way to foster that is to hold this kind of debate among students. Not only it encourages these kids to read more, learn from each other, learn the art of public speaking etc...but also nurtures the culture of tolerance and openness to different views and ideas.......
Hope some humanities courses would be mandatory in colleges for those who wouldn't go into that field......
