The political calculus of Abiy is diluting the power centers of the country. For example, Abiy surreptitiously and gradually took the Meskel Square, First by sending Takle Uma to the Synodose and signing a document that Meskel Square is going to remain the synodose's historical ownership,after Tekle Uma left Adanch Abebe declared that the square belongs to all Ethiopians because it was built by the tax of everybody. Imagin the church didn't exchange the ownership of the Meskele for its beautification. Now Abiy doesn't even call the place it has been called for the past 30 years and except 17 years of Derg, throughout its existence. He calls it Revolutionary square. He also stopped the Orthodox Church's construction nearby. Had this square been a square that was overseen by Muslims and was used by Christians surreptitiously, there would have been bloodshed. The pretentious Christian, by his own words, is tampering with established respectful relationships among religions. His continuous attack on the Orthodox church, his police harassment, and daylight killing of the Church's followers for the simple reason they have the Ethiopian flag without weyane stare is consistent. All church's request for peaceful demonstration is continually denied but as we see Muslims don't even have to ask for a permit they can come out with the government's acquiescence. The government's response to Gonders incident and its response for the killing and burning of churches in Seltae. It is all telling. The Orthodox Ethiopians being attacked or their church burned doesn't even register in Abiy's government. Most Orthodox might not mind their Muslim brothers using the Meskel Square for their religious ceremonies, but the forceful snatching and disrespect Abiy's government is doing is creating resentment which could explode at any time. The two religions have existed for centuries respectfully and working to gather for centuries. They can find a solution by discussion in their brotherly ways, but for Abiy it is purely political calculation making the strong weak and irrelevant. But He will pay for it.
