We may not see eye to eye on issues but I agree with your assessment of this forum.

A lady from the aristocracy of Hailesilaasie heard the student movement ushered in “Communism” and she asked “what’s communism?” And her friend told her Communism is “ምቀኝነት” and the lady said “ታዲያ ወደ ሀገሩ ነዋ የገባው” አሉ አሉ.

The issue with the mentality of the highlanders in contrast to the Galla and South is a difference of night and day. Cost/benefit analysis comes next to vengeance and win-lose paradigm. Most other world functions on political paradigm of win-win based on national interest of the people. Almost uniquely the highlanders of Eritrea, Tigray and Amhara function on not on the common good of you and me, but “I win but you have to lose!”

Think of the Badme war for that land and the 20 years after that. Instead of Tigray using Eritrean ports and Eritrea making business of it, the highlander vengeance mentality (lose-lose) kept both peoples losing irreversible gains that their peoples will not ever recover.

Think of the TPLF warmongering and what it cost all in the region - destroying schools and clinics and factories as if that was a sign of victory. Imagine schools and clinics?! OMG!

Also look at us! You and me! Look at the discussions in this forum and the reflection of that backward, uncivilized and ignorant mentality that shaped our upbringing. “I have to win but you have to lose!”

The reflection of the mentality of the Galla and South in the political polity of the country is a good contribution to the country as the highlanders’ vengeance mentality is unbecoming to the modern government system.

This is not about being critical to you or anyone. It is food for thought on how the mentality we inherited is damaging and unhealthy.

The Badme war is not the only example of 'win-lose' (or lose-lose) game theory in Ethiopia. Lose-lose is an example of ምቀኝነት theory. What about the current war between TPLF & the Fed? What about the war between Shene and the Fed? What about the Killil against killil war for land and resources? I would be less inclined to generalize these as being 'north v. south' mentalities.

Theory of evolution now has two contending foundational principles - one view holds that evolution is driven by the struggle for survival and survival of the fittest which is the basis of 'win-lose' game model and a second view holds that evolution is driven by the cooperation and winners being those that cooperate the most which is the basis of 'win-win' game theory.

Which model is more successful is a matter of empirical evaluation. In our case the real culprit is the postmodern critical theory of identity politics and ethnic existentialism. As the saying goes, bad theory is rectified by good practice. Soon one of the two views will win out or both might turn out to be true. In any case, I find no fundamental objectively verifiable psychological differences between the people of northern and southern Ethiopia - both of them are victims of identity politics and zero-sum game.

As Eritreans we are not competing with any body. We want to live in peace if possible with our neighbors if not to be left the fu’ck alone to go our own way.
