The Word Became Flesh
1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
2 He was with God in the beginning.
3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.
4 In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.
5 The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
6 There was a man sent from God whose name was John.
7 He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.
8 He himself was not the light; he came only as a witness to the light.
9 The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world.
10 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.
11 He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.
12 Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—
13 children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.
14 The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 (John testified concerning him. He cried out, saying, “This is the one I spoke about when I said, ‘He who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ”)
16 Out of his fullness we have all received grace in place of grace already given.
17 For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ.
18 No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known
“ብመጀመርታ ቓል ነበረ፤ እቲ ቓል ድማ ኣብ እግዚኣብሄር ነበረ፤ እቲ ቓልውን እግዚኣብሄር ነበረ። ንሱ ብመጀመርታ ኣብ እግዚኣብሄር ነበረ። ኵሉ ብእኡ ኾነ፤ ካብቲ ዅሉ ዝኾነ ድማ፥ ብዘይ ብእኡ ሓደኳ ዝኾነ የለን። ህይወት ኣብኡ ነበረት፤ እታ ህይወት ከዓ፥ ብርሃን ሰብ ነበረት። ብርሃንውን ኣብ ፀልማት የብርህ፤ ፀልማት ከዓ ኣይሰዓሮን። ካብ እግዚኣብሄር ዝተልኣኸ ዮሃንስ ዝስሙ ሓደ ሰብ ነበረ። ንሱ ምስክር ኮይኑ፥ ኵሎም ብብርሃን ምእንቲ ኽኣምኑ፥ ብዛዕባ ብርሃን ክምስክር መፀ። ብዛዕባ ብርሃን ደኣ ኽምስክር መፀ እምበር፥ ንሱስ ብርሃን ኣይነበረን። እቲ ንዅሉ ሰብ ዘብርህ ናይ ብሓቂ ብርሃን ግና፥ እቲ ናብ ዓለም ዝመፀ እዩ። ኣብ ዓለምውን ነበረ፤ ዓለም ከዓ ብእኡ ኾነ፤ ዓለም ግና ኣይፈለጦን። ናብቶም ናቱ መፀ፤ እቶም ናቱ ግና ኣይተቐበልዎን። ነቶም ኵሎም ዝተቐበልዎን ብስሙ ንዝኣመኑን ግና፥ ውሉድ እግዚኣብሄር ክኾኑ ስልጣን ሃቦም። ንሳቶም ከዓ ኻብ እግዚኣብሄር ዝተወለዱ እምበር፥ ካብ ደም፥ ወይ ካብ ፍቓድ ስጋ፥ ወይ ካብ ፍቓድ ሰብኣይ ዘይተወለዱ እዮም። እቲ ቓልውን ስጋ ኾነ፤ ፀጋን ሓቅን መሊእዎ ኸዓ ኣባና ሓደረ፤ ከምቲ ነቦኡ ሓደ ዝኾነ ውሉድ ዝረኽቦ ኽብሪ፥ ክብሩ ረአና። ዮሃንስ ብዛዕባኡ፥ “እቲ ብድሕረይ ዝመፅእ ቅድመይ ዝነበረ እዩሞ፥ ንሱ ኻባይ ይዓቢ እዩ ዝበልኩኹም እዙይ እዩ” እናበለ ዓው ኢሉ መስከረ። ንሕና ዅላትና ኻብ ምልኣቱ፥ ፀጋ ኣብ ልዕሊ ፀጋ ተቐበልና። ሕጊ ብሙሴ ተውሃበ፤ ፀጋን ሓቅን ግና ብኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ ኮነ። ንእግዚኣብሄርስ ዝረአዮ ሓደኳ የለን፤ እቲ ኣብ ሕቝፊ ኣቦኡ ዘሎ፥ ሓደ ወዱ ደኣ ገለፆ እምበር።”

“በመጀመሪያ ቃል ነበረ፤ ቃልም ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር ነበረ፤ ቃልም እግዚአብሔር ነበረ። እርሱም በመጀመሪያ ከእግዚአብሔር ጋር ነበረ። ሁሉ ነገር በእርሱ ተፈጥሮአል፤ ከተፈጠረው ሁሉ ያለ እርሱ የተፈጠረ ምንም የለም። ሕይወት በእርሱ ነበረች፤ ይህች ሕይወት የሰው ብርሃን ነበረች። ብርሃንም በጨለማ ያበራል፤ ጨለማውም አላሸነፈውም። ከእግዚአብሔር የተላከ ዮሐንስ የተባለ አንድ ሰው ነበረ። ሰዎች ሁሉ በእርሱ በኩል እንዲያምኑ፣ ስለ ብርሃን ምስክር ሆኖ ለመቆም መጣ፤ ስለ ብርሃን ሊመሰክር መጣ እንጂ እርሱ ራሱ ብርሃን አልነበረም። ለሰው ሁሉ ብርሃን ሰጪ የሆነው እውነተኛው ብርሃን ወደ ዓለም እየመጣ ነበር። እርሱ በዓለም ውስጥ ነበረ፤ ዓለም የተፈጠረው በእርሱ ቢሆንም እንኳ፣ ዓለም አላወቀውም። ወደ ራሱ ወገኖች መጣ፤ የገዛ ወገኖቹ ግን አልተቀበሉትም፤ ለተቀበሉትና በስሙ ላመኑት ሁሉ ግን የእግዚአብሔር ልጆች የመሆን መብት ሰጣቸው። እነዚህም ከእግዚአብሔር ተወለዱ እንጂ፣ ከደም ወይም ከሥጋ ፈቃድ ወይም ከወንድ ፈቃድ አልተወለዱም። ቃልም ሥጋ ሆነ፤ በመካከላችንም አደረ፤ እኛም ጸጋንና እውነትን ተሞልቶ ከአባቱ ዘንድ የመጣውን የአንድያ ልጅን ክብር አየን። ዮሐንስም፣ “ ‘ከእኔ በኋላ የሚመጣው ከእኔ በፊት ስለ ነበረ ከእኔ ይልቃል’ ብዬ የመሰከርሁለት እርሱ ነው” በማለት ጮኾ ስለ እርሱ መሰከረ። ከእርሱ ሙላት ሁላችንም በጸጋ ላይ ጸጋ ተቀብለናል፤ ሕግ በሙሴ በኩል ተሰጥቶ ነበር፤ ጸጋና እውነት ግን በኢየሱስ ክርስቶስ በኩል መጣ። ከቶውንም እግዚአብሔርን ያየ ማንም የለም፤ ነገር ግን በአብ እቅፍ ያለው አንድያ ልጁ የሆነው አምላክ እርሱ ገለጠው።”
