Tigray condemns desecration of remains of victims of genocide in Western Tigray by Ethiopian and Amhara authorities
Tigray has condemned desecration of remains of victims of ‘genocide’ in Western Tigray by neighboring Amhara state and federal authorities.
A statement by the Tigray government said the authorities are deliberately destroying evidences to
“The expansionist forces are now exhuming the bodies of Tigrayans its forces massacred and put in mass graves for the sole purpose of destroying evidence, presenting themselves as the victim and furthering their unconstitutional claims”, the statement said.
The statement also said that Amhara expansionist forces are trying to disseminate shockingly false claims regarding the identity of the victims whose remains are they desecrating.
“By brazenly tampering with critical forensic evidence, the expansionist Amhara forces are making amateurish attempts at concealing its direct involvement in efforts to exterminate the people of Tigray”, the statement added.
Ethiopian and Amhara state media on Sunday April 03, 2022, showed authorities from neighboring Amhara region and the Federal government digging sites of mass graves and removing bodies dozens of victims, and taking them to unknown places, arguing that they were victims of ‘Tigray’s forces’, without explaining reasons behind the rush to move the bodies. Tigrayan advocacy groups and rights groups believed that Ethiopian and Amhara authorities are deliberately removing and desecrating the bodies ahead of the UN investigation to destroy evidences regarding atrocities committed in Western Tigray, including massacres, and are calling for the international community to act and stop it.
